So whats the deal with crossovers in IEMs?

In the speaker world, more drivers mean more crossovers meaning more difficulty on integrating driver freqs. Less drivers are normally more preferred, designing crossovers is an expensive art, that is if you want seamless high end integration, this is one of the reasons why two way monitors in a low-mid price range are generally more recommended, they avoid better the freq overlaps or gaps since there is only one crossover.

My point is that more than 3 drivers in an IEM starts to sound more like a marketing war. Somehow ridiculous....

I'm not convinced these crossovers are anything more than a gimmick. If the crossovers are so terrific, why do the manufacturers reach for a mechanical filter?
