Question to the D3 owners: Can the oversampling be turned off ?

Manual is somewhat vague on that point.
I would like to see the option of audio stream not having to go thru the 25 year old SM5847.

I believe it can't be turned off but what is oversampling anyways? Is it something bad? For me the DAC sounds super great on my system my system is super reveilling and is active as well.
