Ive been looking for a panel mount 2.5mm TRRS socket to replace the one that ripped off the board of my ifi xcan after less than a month of use but theres not much space in the casing to actually fit the connector and the Prosignal one i have is too large to really fit in, especially as i dont have a drill capable of getting through metal as thick as the front panel. does anyone know what the smallest body 2.5mm socket would be, i can only really find 2 about, the Prosignal and the EST

if i cant find anything to fit i guess ill just have to 3d print a new front panel (or even whole housing) to replace the original

I checked Mouser: https://www.mouser.com/Connectors/Audio-Video-Connectors/Phone-Connectors/_/N-778cv

Looked under "phone" connectors, then 4 position, but visually nothing looks similar... AliExpress yielded better results. See these:

I saw a definite match for the 3.5mm

Thanks for the research but I wasn't looking for a direct replacement as it'll just be prone to the same issue again, my plan was to drill out the front panel and fit a panel mount one that way the stress is taken by the chassis rather than the board but fitting it into the space is tough.

But I've been thinking that maybe a full new housing would be the better choice and if I'm going that way why use the horribly unreliable 2.5mm jack at all, I can use any connector and space isn't so much of an issue so I could use a 4.4mm or something

If you are going all out you may want to try a 4 pin mini XLR. That's a much more durable mechanism (if it could fit). You'd probably need to remove some of the PCB in that area... and maybe ditch the 3.5mm as well. Also you could just cable mount one and run the wires through the front panel and set up a strain relief.

That sounds like a good call to me, ordered a 4pin mini XLR panel mount and the bits to make a mini XLR to 2x3.5mm cable for my in progress LCD2 driver based headphone build and crap i just remembered i should have ordered 2 as ill need to make a cable for my current cans too as theyre single entry (a heavily modded pair of audeze mobius wired up balanced passive)
