Hello;

I run with an MZE-75 MD player. Nice sounding unit, but I find the 40 sec shock buffer often fills and the unit shuts down.

Any runners have comments on the new players with G protection?

I know i could get skip free with an MP3 player, but don't want to spend yet more time in front of the computer. Being a Mac person, the ipod loks great, but given the times i slip and fall on the ice in winter running, more than the music would be compressed on any ipod unfortunate enough to come between my falling butt and the pavement. And years of experience has proved you always fall on electronic equipment!

Unfortuantely, the Sony player with G protection is only $200 less than an ipod, and probably just as compressible.

thanks for your comments

How has your MZE-75 survived all this time then? Is it incompressible?

mackay:

I have an E900 (40 second G-Shock) and have to say that it really is better shock protection than my other unit (also with 40 second, but not G-Shock).

However, I've found that the best solution is to actually reduce the "shock." If you have your MD player on your waist, it's going to get pounded. If you carry it in your hand, it gets a much smoother ride (more movement, but much smoother). I find that even with G-Shock, you'll get ocassionally skips on the waist, but holding it I never get a skip, ever.

A good case for this is the Case Logic MPC-2:

Plus next time you skid and fall you can stick your hand out from the pile of snow and say, (body still buried in snow) 'no I didn't fall on it, I swear!'

LOL!

The great thing about the case I mentioned above is that it has a nice, thick elastic strap on it that fits around your hand. If you put it on the *back* of your hand (elastic strap on the inside), you maintain full use of your hand (including fall-on-it protection

).
