Getting into the headphone game again after many years, I've found it nigh impossible to find something that fits. I always thought my ears were on the small side. I just had them measured: appr. 60 mm x 40 mm. Apparently, the average size for human ears is 63 mm. So how come all these horribly uncomfortable earpads get developed in crazily expensive Hi-Fi gear? (Yes, "mid"-fi gear is still expensive to me - not that deep into the audiophile game.)

That said:

Dali io-4/io-6:

Diameter 55 mm.
Depth 20 mm (+/- 1-2)

(Avoid like the plague if you have average sized sensitive ears like me!)

I just bought BD 770 Pro, since I read that they're supposed to be crazily comfortable with big earpads for everyone and all except for huge giants. Lo and behold, these titans of comfort are also designed for 5-year-olds with a good amount of pocket money.

Good thing at least these cans can be equipped with other, bigger pads. Still, annoying that I would have to buy aftermarket pads to use the headphones comfortably, especially seeing as they're being touted as kings of comfort in many places.

Anyone know the measurements for DT1770/DT1990 and MSR7b? :)

Hi, nice thread with useful info for people need bigger ear pads like me. My ear measure 73mm long and I’ve tried HD650 which barely fits. Hifiman ananda fits very well for me, and it doesn’t touch my ear at all. Sony 1000xm3 becomes on-ear headphone for me :(
My question: can someone confirm AKG K712/702, is the internal height or width 73mm?

I’m looking for some nice but budget ($100-$150 USD) open back headphones that are easy to drive since i want to use them with PS4. I use HD569 and DT770s right now and the pad depth is fine, so something like that would be best. I’d prefer highly to not need to change the pads for personal reasons.

Denon AH-D5200

Exterior height: 100mm
Exterior width: 95mm

Interior height: 68mm
Interior width: 42mm

Depth: approximately 24mm at the front and 30mm at the back.

These are angled, pleathor pads, and yes, the interior width is pretty small compared to the exterior size.

The Sennheiser HD569 is great, with 80mm in height and 45mm in width.

But no ANC (and not wireless, which I would prefer), but I can't find anything close to those dimensions...

The QuietComfort (2023) from Bose is usually the suggested one, but it's 60mm by 40mm and a direct "nope" as soon as I put it on...
I just don't understand the size of the pads when you know the average size of human ears...

Theese are two different types of headphones -
Over-the-Ear (comfortable) and On-Ear (mostly portable) Headphones.
For some people Bose QC tend to be more comfortable. :)
