So I need interconnects for all my components, including my turntable. I was pointed to Headphile and I think they're a great deal.

I was thinking of getting all cables in the silver version, but are they a good match for vinyl? Won't they bring out undesirable detail?

I'm also AWFULLY scared of bright sound, I wonder if they're a bad idea then?

Cables are always a dilemma...

Thanks everybody!

Judging by their popularity, the headphile silver cables are very likely well balanced/good cables. I would not worry about brightness, that is more a fault of cheap silver/silver tinned copper cables.

I use all silver wiring in my system and have a Grover SR Phono going from my VPI Scout to my Grado PH-1 and then Bogdan BSSR from the PH-1 to my Unico (which delivers sound to my speakers through Grover SR speaker cable). My system is fast, detailed, rich and anything but bright. With clean vinyl you won't have any problems there.

Silver generally brings out the upper and lower detail without extending the midrange too much, which is generally why its an especially good match for tube audio, I would think records would be the same way, although I haven't listened to a record since my parents retired their miserable beach boys albums 20 or so years ago.

The main determinant of the sound's character (after the lps, of course) is probably the cartridge. By comparison, cable effects will be very subtle.

I use the Bogdan Silver Spirit Reference cables in my vinyl system. If the system is set up properly, there is no such thing as too much detail. If detail sounds bad in a system, it's time to fix the system, IMO.

There's so much mystery surrounding silver cables that I just wanted to make sure to buy all my interconnects in silver :X

Sounds like it's a good idea.

Either the silver ones, the copper equivalents and hybrid ones (copper + silver) cost about the same price from Headphile, so I wanted to make sure I was buying the best for the money. Thanks!

There's no application in which hybrid or copper will be better than silver?

one application I can think of is with budget digital sources. I prefered less revealing copper Acoustiz Zen Matrixs to Grovers (previous make) with my Philips 963 and more then my Grover SRs with my current toshiba 3950. They can sound a bit digital and the midrange extension & comparably darker presentation made for a more flattering synergy.

Silver cables sound unbearably bright in my system (check sig). I was shocked at how much better copper sounded (IMS), adding a darker warmer signature, rather then a bright, screechy vocal, missing low mid detail. Silver used: Analysis Plus Silver Oval, Homegrown Silver Lace, Siltech G3, Chord, Mana (yes they make cables). What I am saying is, it has everything to do with your system, not mid-fi cables. You shouldn't go thinking "my cables just aren't good enough". If silver is a reoccuring issue when rolling, go copper. *It works for me.
