I don't really like the corner connectors, they scroll.

When I need to listen from the phone, I connect a 0.5m cable and this completely solves the issue. My cables (3,5-3,5) are soft and transmit almost no rustling or knocking noises, they are cheap, the audio signal is transmitted without loss, I compared them with the original fostex cable for $75. What I mean is that the cable doesn’t have to be expensive...
Yes I have been advised about that,, I ordered a 8euro new cable for my 600euro iems from Ali Express.. if you could link the thomann pages for the connector it would save me minutes!

My sound is dropping slightly in and out from one side to the other..Is this amount of shortening upsetting things?.. Ha I suppose I can find out by unwrapping but it took a little bit of effort!... Or maybe its because the 3.5mm end just had to had a fancy screw in option rather than just give a nice reassuring length to go in to the phone (or it goes in fine and far enough and its just me)..

I hope his wasn't excessive wrapping...

I was also thinking about buying their cable for the phone. It weighs only 14 grams. But it seems fragile to me and is expensive. And I bought a twisted Shure cable and a high-quality plastic socket. The result is in the photo.

ps The twisted one is even a little softer than the straight one. Twisted weighs 150 grams. My version of the cut cable + socket is only 15 grams and I connect 2m and 0.5m depending on the circumstances.

Make me this and I buy.. I am ineptitude at creating this it will never occur!... The proprietary connection into phone is not good, there is a wobble and the connection inside is not secure , its because of the amount of length of the casing outside coming away from the phone is so long there is way too much of a lever to move the jack inside when walking arounfld with phone in pocket. I hope I explained that correctly.. I'll have to knuckle down and figure out exactly maybe I can get the parts and someone I know can do it for me..

I'm joining this chat late but I just want to say that the Shure 840A's are my favourite low end headphone. They don't do anything wrong and get a lot of things right. Do they feel cheap and plasticky? Yes. But they also sound great for the money and if you use them with a cheap dongle dac to jack up the power a bit they make wonderful commuter headphones and they don't leak sound almost at all so not annoying for other people on the train.

Would they be a good replacement for the SHR940?
Mine are in a really bad shape and the headband is really uncomfortable but I just love the sound.
Maybe a little bit more bass would be fine but I love the details in the upper regions.

You'll find a different sound signature on the 840 as compared to the 940. What I heard (and it was awhile ago when I listened side by side) was that the 940 is a brighter headphone than the 840 and that alone might make it seem more detailed. That said, the 840A is now a bit brighter than the original and it's bass is tighter and more defined. What struck me in particular was the SRH940 was not that neutral. If you want a neutral sound that is also quite musical then the 840A is for you. The down side will be that when you initially put them on, they might sound dull compared to the 940. It's what your brain is used to and that takes some changing. The headband construction seems far sturdier on the 840A - my 840s still work but the head band broke in the worst possible place maening I can't use them.

840A is not 840 or 940. But the sound character is the same.
I haven't heard 940. I have "840A" and were "840".
Perhaps the brightness will be similar to the brightness of 940.
840A is brighter than 840. Bass is better.
Everything is better.

But for you personally, it may be a challenge that you have velor and here it is leatherette. But maybe velor 940 will sound at 840A.

I only tried the ear pads from the 1540 on the 840A and they felt cramped and hot in them; the original ear pads are more spacious.

These things significantly increase comfort; the seal in the ear cushion is only on the bottom and back, not all around.

I was able to test the SRH840A today. It is a good headphone but not what I was looking forward.
I already forgot what bothered me but it was quite obvious and I went with the Hifiman Sundara instead.
