Just curious, but how much is everyone paying for these? I imagine around $70-75 at the moment?

I paid $84 for mine, but that was about 3 months ago. Paid $79 for the XB700 a month later. And $50 for the Creative DAC.

After playing with these cans for 1 week now, I must say I am satsified with SRH440. Sound good from an iPod, but improves a lot with better source. Very good isolation as well!

Comparing them to the other set of closed cans I have had, the HD 25 I-II and Denon D1000, i like the Shure's better. Why?? In my opinion they do nothing wrong, islolates well and I like the way they sound.

I noticed that the openness of the cans improved after burn-in, the bass might've improved, but I was probably too disappointed in the overall level of bass to notice. That said, the impression of the XB700 I never had time to write has finally been written.

I agree 100%. They are a very good, all around, everyday set of cans. I have absolutely no remorse in the purchase. And like pterodactilo also says, they aren't light in bass. I see them as more neutral/natural in the lower registers.

As stated above, I am satisfied with my SRH440. I like the way the Shure's sound so much that I am considering upgrading to SRH840.

It's not the money that stops me from deciding, it's more if the SRH840 actually will be an upgrade for me with my gear. Main source right now is iBasso D10, and I think it match SRH440 very good.

So, I have a hard time deciding if I should upgrade. Do you think SRH840 will make things even better when used with my iBasso or Beresford DAC/AMP? All comments are welcome.

i'm thinking about srh840 to, but they are to big form me, and i'm looking for portable phones to my sony nwz e443 or ipod touch 2g/ipgone 3gs + small mobile polish amp holdegron. i think taht srh440 sounds great, but i like little more bas.

Err, I'm not sure what that post is doing here, but the DT770s' sound quality is reportedly extremely good, especially in the bass department. Make sure you get the 32 ohm model of the 770s, not the 600 ohm - assuming you don't have a sufficiently powerful amp, that is.

By the way, my skin is a lot better. I think I'll post about the Icon Mobile + 440s soon, although I can't say that's a great amp/headphone matchup. They'd probably do better with a bassier or less bright-sounding amp - well, just saying.

In general, I would not recommend these for gaming. There are much better headphones suited for gaming, even when in a decent setup, than the SRH440. These headphones are better for more analytical listening or a person who likes transparency in their music; which means that they are lighter on bass than other headphones in the same price range. I know a few people who have the Sennheiser HD 280 who believe the bass is stronger than on the SRH440, but the SRH440 has more definition, as they should. Granted, video games don't, in general, have the best sound quality, so the 280's would be better in this case.

For gaming, you'd probably want a headphone with a larger soundstage, so you can tell where sound effects are coming from. Perhaps audio-technica AD700s, maybe? Being open headphones, they leak a lot of sound, though.
