Nice. $500 my limit... and it really doesn't get any better than this.

Good luck to you, though

For $500, these are indeed good.

I've had these for 6 months, now. That's the longest ever for any headphone...

Good? I say DAMN GOOD! :)

I think the alpha pads should be thicker, so it should help for smaller pads. I think. I don't know for sure.

Wow, sorry for overlooking this post. I have Alpha pads on mine, and I helps immensely with isolation and fit.

The catch, however, is getting that good fit. For my head, the angles need to placed facing upwards and the headband needs to be stretched. Its real tricky and people should be advised of so.

In the end, the ft will look as:

Dome

\ /

Chin

Edit: I have pics around here, somewhere

Where does one get the alpha pads, if I may ask?

Lol. Go for it! I still don't get why Jude's 1540 thread died, but I guess this is the only active one.

I'm pretty sure it died right when I posted on it for the first time.  It must be my sex appeal :D.  Lol j/k

I finally got my pair in today which I picked up from imackler and man do I dig the sound! I also used to own the 940 though so do like this type of sound. The 1540 is better though at least in my opinion and I know I won't have to worry about build issues! Love the boosted bass, it fill my inner basshead while still giving me the smooth Shure mids, treble, detail, and imaging, sound stage... LOL.

I actually can't figure out why these seem to have such a small following. They are easy to drive but benefit from a reasonable amp and offer a ton of upside that I would think any audiophile would enjoy. I sometimes think members that pay $500 or more for a headphone feel it should need a $500+ amp requirement or it's just not worth the price tag. I on the other hand appreciate not having to spend so much on DAP's and amps to appreciate what I buy. I also love being able to use what I buy from portable sources so I can get more use out of my purchase.

I knew you'd be enjoy them! As wonderful as these are, however, the small following is due to its current price. Not many people are in the $500 market, and those who are, tend to skip the $500 mark and jump straight to $750-$1000. If these were sold at $400, new, they'd probably have a higher fan base.

I suspect your right but it's not because they are not worth $500
