First post on Head-Fi!!! Woooo!

Anyway, I'm having a big decision. I'm deciding between the Shure SR840 or Audio Technica ATH-M50. I am playing them from my Ipod, and I listen to Hard Rock, Punk, and Alternative, and bands like Green Day and Linkin Park. My budget is $150, and nothing more. Also, isolation is not the biggest deal to me, sound is. Which one should I get? Thanks!

Never try of Shure 840, but I have 940, but when I compared to ATH-M50, I still prefer ATH-50 for its clarity. Too bad you missed on the ATH-50 deal last time on Soundprofessionals, you can get it around $100 + shipping, or the white or LE version for a bit more. For that kinda of price, it is a no brainer.

Thanks for both of your opinions. :) I have heard that the M50 is more bass heavy and more 'fun' to listen to, and the SR840 is more neutral and more suited to music that focuses on mids. I found the M50's for $125 on Amazon today, and the SRH840's were $148. The price influences my opinion a bit, so I am leaning towards the M50's. And sorry if this is off-topic, but are the BRAINWAVZ HM5 headphones any good? Thanks!

The Shure 840 has very nice sound and would prefer them.  The downside for me was their comfort, I could not tolerate them for long sessions.  This is not an issue for most people, so if you find them comfortable I don't think you'll be disappointed in the sound.

Just in case if you decide to go with ATH M50, the deal I mentioned is back.
