i changed my mind AGAIN
now leaning towards the etymotics. i was about to buy the shure e2cs on amazon, but i noticed they were $100 and not $70 (was looking at used and new). so im going to get the etymotics. i determined that i'm probably not a bass junky, and that with a good seal ill still be happy.
my last question (hopefully) is amazon's return policy on headphones. do i get a full or half refund for opened box of headphones? says "new condition" under electronics but "unopened" under the general policy. just in case i'm not satisfied

Good choice. Stick with the Etys. I have owned both the 6i and e2, and I can safely say that for cheap, quality sound the Etys cannot be beat! The detail in the uppers and mids is phenomenal for such inexpensive phones, and the bass is nice and tight. I really cannot understand people claiming that these are in any way bass deficient. With my 5g ipod (flat tone controls), the bass is nice and punchy. The triflanges are nice and comfy for me and really enable a DEEP insertion.

I'd go with EarphoneSolutions.com over Amazon.com. Granted, I bought my E2Cs from Amazon a year and a half ago, but only because they were $65 and came with a $15 iTunes GC. EarphoneSolutions.com has considerably lower prices, I'm about to go with them for E4Cs. Good luck, I hope you enjoy your IEMs, and your wallet enjoys the feeling of gradually getting emptier as your headphone hobby spirals
