Fair point, I don't know why they don't use ES, as Signature Series is pretty generic. Sony DMP-Z1 should resurrect Qualia!

More of the Renaissance Series IMO for the DMP-Z1. ES is the TA-ZH1ES which is priced at below 2.5k. Qualia line was quite expensive but the 010 headphones had a listed price of $2.5 K back in the early 2000s. The R10 for instance was priced at 250,000 yen way back in 1989.

Hi Everyone,

Haven't posted here or anywhere on head-fi for a while...

Here is an updated pic:

Still have many of the same components from several years ago.
I used to run the TA-N/E90ES Amp/Pre-Amp combo, but it had to go. The combo was built well and looked nice, but the sound never quite agreed with me.

Hello

I was negotiating here in Portugal with a Sony SCD-555ES

silver color

opinions .... is it good?

Thank you

.
How much? The best choice is to go with the SCD-XA5400ES if you want the very best sound quality from Sony SCD player. It even bested the modded SCD-1 that I used to have. It sounds great on both red book and SACD playback.

How would you compare the quality on that relative to the new UBP-X1100ES?

I have both a stock SCD-1 (which after 14 years of service needs repair) and an SCD-XA5400ES. When they both worked I compared them and I would give a very slight edge to the SCD-1 ( please remember that which one sounds better is probably very system dependent ). What I can say with great confidence is that the 5400 is a very good player and at the price that I bought it new ( about $1100 in 2011 (if I remember correctly )) was a tremendous value. A player that good at that price was remarkable. I have no idea what the go for used or if there are any new ones left in the market.

I preferred the XA5400ES to it but I have to say that the SCD-1 left a lot on the table playing red book but it’s SACD playback is excellent. Still it makes more sense to get the XA5400ES if you are after the ES player. I also have the XA9000ES and that player is very beautiful but doesn’t quite measure up to the SCD-1. My Modwright Sony SCD-777ES hasn’t been turned on in a while but is the best sounding SACD player that I have. It still working properly the last I check.

The XA7ES is said to have a really good playback in red book. I had it in the past and it sounds better than both the SCD-1 and 777ES in red book playback. It is sad to see that the shelf life of Sony products are only 5-10 years without repair support afterward. Nothing will ever beat the SCD-1 in the look department.
