Should I Go For The Karma?

I say stay FAR FAR away from Rio products.

I am now one of the thousands who have experienced failing Karmas, just dying.

The first six or seven times that my player died, me and my brother smacked the hell out of the thing, hitting it against chairs, etc. The last two times, we were told to wrap it in bubble wrap and throw it around the room.

This is INEXCUSABLE! This kind of product, where the only way you can get it to work is to smack the living **** out of it, is not a good product, it should not be released to the public.

Go for a player with quality. I made the BIG mistake of throwing 300 dollars at Rio, which was basically money thrown out the window.

Then they wanted 150 dollars (half of what I payed for it!) to get a refurb. This is just a terrible, TERRIBLE, product.

I say go for it... for every person who's had an experience equivalent to that of Aman, many more have loved it.

Luckily for us, you can get a Karma, a Vaja case, and a 2 year warranty all for $40 less than an iPod!

Or, you can get a Karma, and then a replacement 40GB HDD for it (for if/when it dies), and still only cost $312! Or simply a 20GB replacement for a total of $273!

I see no compelling reason to go to another device with prices like that, even if it's hard drive is less reliable.

If I get this right, the Karma doesn't have a line out on the player itself.
Does that mean that I wouldn't get the most of it if I wanted to use a portable amp with it?

And does the Archos XS200 has a line out on it?

you have to use the dock to use the line out, though some people claim setting the volume on 29/30 is similar to a line out. that certainly isnt a line out though. im hoping that someone will hurry up and make a line-out connector for the karma...

yes the archos does. google.

The only problems I see with it are the uglyness
blink.gif
, lack of microphone, and lack of radio.
I never liked remotes anyway unless the were for volume control the make it too long.
Still I was going to get this but I want to get a Zen Micro instead. I didn't need that much space, the microphone is really handy and if you don't want to listen to your music you can use the radio. It also looks cooler

. They both sound the same with good headphones to me.
I think you should wait if you don't need one now.

I'm very close to getting a Karma too...
my only 2 important dubts are :

-Can the Zen Micro ( and the Carbon too but I dubt the Carbon would sound as good as the Karma ) stand to the Karma soundwise speaking ? ( I'd go with probably the Micro if i knew sound was on pair , mainly for reduced size )

-Has the Karma any possibility to transport non-audio files / using a drag and drop in windows?

The Karma can transport non-audio data files, but it requires the use of separate software (Rio Taxi).

Sound quality is a bit trickier. The Karma has that great super-customizable equalizer, which beats the snot out of just having a bunch of presets any day of the week. Aside from that, I imagine they're pretty close. The Karma is known for being able to drive some of the more power hungry cans out there more easily than a lot of other players, too.

You can get the 40 GB iPod photo at buy.com for $339.99 (24 hours ago it was $499!). Grab one while you can though. This is one of the just-discontinued models and it comes with all of the standard accessories (including carrying case with belt clip, dock, AC adapter, FireWire cable, USB2 cable, A/V cable for slideshows, etc.), unlike the new ones. 15 hours of battery life as well.

oh my gd, do you work for apple? go back to ipodlounge where people care.

Boodi, I owned the zen micro before getting my karma. While the micro sounded good, i much prefer the sound of the karma. The micro did sound good, though, so the size point is still valid. I'm glad i have the karma, though.

Just to update. My Nomad Zen Xtra 30GB has been handling 30+ min jogs four times a week for about two months now with no problems. I hold it in my hand and it is surprisingly comfortable and does not induce fatigue in anyway. I'm currently training for a spring marathon so it will be interesting to see if the Zen is able to hold up over jogging sessions lasting up to three hours, in the middle of winter no less (of course I'll have the Zen, and my hands, inside mittens). I'll keep you guys posted.
