I only have experience with the HD800 but I want something good for my SE amp so I don't have to keep swapping cables.

I read that DT 150s are 'pretty good':

(In ascending order of preference)
Grado sr80; Sennheiser HD555; HD280pro; Equation Audio rp-22x; Beyerdynamic DTX 900; Beyerdynamic DT770/80--Victor Jvc HP-M1000; AKG K701, DT 880 2003 edition; DT 880 250 OHM 2005 edition
; and now, DT 150-250 on top of them ALL.

Anyone heard both and can advise?

I could always just get another HD800 but I'd like to venture into a different pair without being disappointed if possible.

IMO the DT150 is the best closed headphone from Beyerdynamic (had DT250 and DT770 both Pro and 2005 before). I don't have DT770 manufaktur so i can't make a comment on that.

Just out of curiousity, what didn't you like about the DT-250's or the DT 770 pro/2005?

I've heard the DT-770/80, but I've not heard either of the 150's or the 250's.

I know that I'm not offering much to the thread, but could you offer a little more info on why you chose the 150's in the end (for the OP and myself)?

DT48 is an example of an FOTM gone horribly wrong.

DT150 is pretty decent, I like it better than the bass and sibilant monsters of DT770Pro (80 and 250 ohms alike). It's probably in the same tier as D2000 and SRH840.

I really want to try the DT150 but first things first. I also heard they are a beast to amp properly.

From what i heard DT48 was very analytical and had no warmth so i never bothered. The DT250 had a smaller soundstage and it wasn't as fun to listen to compared to DT150. DT770 2005 was more detailed but the sound was thin so i didn't like it.

It's true that the comfort isn't as great as DT770 but if you squeeze the pads it will soften up.

If you are editing music it's best to go with DT250 because they have the most neutral sound.
If you want to enjoy your music go with DT150.

I find the DT250 to have a larger soundstage because of the porous pads.
I find it more fun because they dont have muddy bass.

the DT150 certainly doesn't have muddy bass. Unless maybe you're coming from a K701? Then anything would sound boomy.

I thought the DT150 sounded technically very good, and balanced. But something about the presentation was just completely lifeless. And not in a "you just don't understand neutral" kind of way. Seemed to lack timbre and tone, and everything just sounded dry and lifeless. But they got the balance of treble-mids-bass right, IMO and so if you don't notice/care about this problem, they could be great.
