is the silver dragon the same as any other cable with a left, right, and ground wires? or is it something special?? would reterminating it be easy, if you have experience and have reterminated other basic cables??

Just add a velcro strap to keep it from uncoiling. 8-10' is a perfect length for hp cable.

Seems like it's the older version with the solid-core wires. It has two wires per channel. Reterminating is very easy. With a bit of patience (for dismantling) you can even use the native ¼" plug. Or you could make an extension cable out of the cut-off piece. Ore some interconnects. Saves you money and thus makes up for the possible loss of resale value of the headphone. Although I think there are people who'd prefer an RS 2 with shorter cable, too.

I'd use valcro to hold the cable. I do that with all the headphones I use at home, so I can have the option to uncoil it. this is where I got the: Hook and Loop Fastener , Cable Ties, Computer Cable Organizers, Rubber Grommet, Velcro Cable Ties, Wire Wrap
