Been reading some more on this forum and that makes it pretty
hard to decide on an amp... First I thought about buying a Corda Arietta,
nice looks, good price and Natural Crossfeed Filter.. Then I started reading about the Heed Can Amp... Ok convince me why should I buy the Heed?
How much more will I enjoy my cans, what are the pros and cons.
All input seriously appreciated

Cheers,

Dennis.

It totally depends on what phones you'll be using.
Second consideration is: do you need a USB DAC (as is in the Arietta)?

I went from a headfive and the heed canamp bests it in every way. power, detail and dynamics are all improved with the canamp, and i feel that the improvement is so great that the increase in price is easily justified. the canamp has a special synergy with the K701s though, but I feel just about any phone will sound better with the canamp than the arietta if it's anything like the headfive.

as soon as I got the canamp, I sold the headfive asap as it was getting no listening time

arietta doesn't have a DAC, you may be thinking about the Aria.

Hi Dennis,

First of all, could you tell us what your headphones and sources are?

Also still figuring out what phones to get... at the moment I have; ATH-M40,
that I use in the studio for recording, Equation RP-20 and PX100 for portable use. I have been trying the HD650's with an Xcan V3, that combination I didn't like at all, too muddy and bass heavy, lacking detail and slow...
I was really surprised because a lot of people seem to like this combination but for me as a musician it didn't sound right gave me headache...
I'm thinking about a Beyer DT880 Manufakture with leather pads, 250 or 600 ohms or a completely other beast an ATH-AD 900, or even an other Senn
when I find the right balance in sound, all suggestions are highly appreciated!

Oh sorry I forgot, source is Cambridge Azur 640C v2, via tape out Audio Analogue Puccini Settanta Amp.

Cheers, Dennis

It would be a lot easier to give input if you start telling what you're looking for.
Like: what is your favorite kind of music. What sort of sound signature do you like, neutral, fast & airy, bassy, detailed ....etc.
Do you want / need isolation: open / closed phones.
Also what is your budget (not that that matters a lot, you'll spend more anyway).

Budget €500,-, sound, fast, detailed, balanced, not too bassy, music from
acoustic to funk, from Jazz to Rock, from country to soul, from fado to blues..
etc.., I want open phones.
Cheers,
Dennis.

Sounds like the DT880s to me. If you are planning on getting the 600 Ohm version I doubt the arietta can drive them. I don't know whether Jan can customize them for you so they can though.

Come to the Maastricht Meet on Sunday, June 3rd.

I'm bringing my CanAmp and there will be a few open cans you can try.

Hitch a ride with Kees!
