Hi,
Font size will be enhanced.
Some translations will be improved.
Given these two major updates, firmware version will go from 1.4 to 2.0.
Just kiddin of course. I sincerely hope that this update will be a major one that will solve a lot of problems.
But as someone posted earlier, Shanling does not seem to really care about customer feedback and requests.
So I am not overly confident that this will happen...
Let's keep our/your fingers crossed as I returned the device within the 15 days I bought it and got a full refund.
But I keep following this as I got a new Shanling device and hope for improvements

We are all waiting for the next firmware upgrade.
But I'm seriously starting to think that the processor inside the machine, in order to contain the cost of production and hence the market price, is too weak to manage the EM5 several features and functions.
Most of EM5 flaws reported, and personally experienced, are typical of an old computer machine when it is subject to an update to a heavier and barely supported operating system.
So, please, convince me that I'm wrong.

This is exactly what I told in a previous post.
If I am not mistaken the SoC used in the em5 is a snapdragon 465, which was entry line SoC five years ago
This probably explains two things :
1°) Why the Em5 had Android 7 and not newer
2°) Why they do not allow to install this party apps
And that also explains why is retuned mine.
Too many bugs that will never get fixed unless :
1°) shanling drops Eddict ;
2°) shanling complies strictly to UPnP/DLNA protocols.
It will probably never happen.
It more and more looks like Shanling wants us to create an as closed as possible ecosystem.
And make us pay prices that are getting more and more stellar (Onix ; M30, EM7...).
But they forget that to do so, you have to offer what is the best amongst all others.
And so far, that last conditions is not fullfilled

Uploading firmware today, available soon.
Snapdragon 430 was the best CPU we could use at the time. Audio companies are limited in what types of CPUs we can access, so that's why you see similar older CPUs not just in our devices, but at most Audio companies.
@PenguinHeadphoner We have no problem with using 430CPU on open Android device, we had a whole generation of portable players using open Android on this CPU.
On the streamers, software team decided to keep the system closed, as the device inner working is more complicated than on our portable players and there are fears that installing random third-party apps can result in bricked devices.

Wondering if this time it's worth using the pendrive update instead of OTA.... Waiting the procedure online is a bit frightening, since it takes few minutes. Is any reason to choose one way instead the other?
However, at the moment, I cannot find the download and new version description page on the Shanling website.

Where did you see then new version 1.61?
On my EM5 I see only version 1.60 available for OTA update.
On the download page for EM5 there is still 1.51 listed... No pendrive option possible yet!

Ok, so one update on this, factory reset is actually needed to get the streaming apps updated. Without factory reset rest of the system will be updated, but the apps will be stuck in the old version.
Sorry for this, we were not informed about this by software team until now.
