More facts. Qobuz online and offline working well, in both cases connected to onkyo amplifier via coaxial. Tidal, no sound via coaxial!!!!. So strange. I suggest to implement in a future firmware update an option to select output (coaxial, optical, line out), as you @Shanling and others do with your android daps. In fact there is an option select input but not output. I think is very easy to implement. Any other users report such a problem with no sound on tidal via coaxial output?

update: no sound on tidal masters mqa tracks (analog output, optical or coaxial). Maybe because optical or coaxial max output is 24/192?. No problem with tidal sq tracks.
Problem with Eddict player solved. Tried wireless projection option and Eddict player could see EM5.

All digital outputs are active at the same time. As such, we didn't really see need to have there switch for them.

These are very intriguing! Is there any place in the US to hear a demonstration, or has Shanling considered the potential of a product tour? I realize tours are a bit of an investment, but if Shanling desires more reviews on either of these products, I would be interested


Airplay may be a suitable workaround, but are there plans to include Android support for Apple Music? I have Tidal and Spotify as well, but Apple Music’s lossless and hires lossless files would be nice to use

Taking into account that many tidal masters and mqa local tracks are 24/384, may be there is no sound due to 24/192 maximum sampling resolution of digital outputs.

Behavior of Eddict player, both iOS and android versions, is so erratic that app crashed every 20 or 30 seconds. One detail, shanling EM5 webpage says that Eddict player connect to EM5 through device resources, but doesn’t work for me. In my case It only connects to EM5 though wireless projection option.

I can connect fine on both wireless projection as well as device resources. Did not experience any app crashes thus far on my Samsung. Will give IOS a try later. Are you running on firmware V1.21

Thank you @johnjazz, going to try later again. In fact, eddict android app was more stable in my case than iOS app. Saturday was almost everything fine with the android app, but Sunday night was a nightmare. Thanks for the screenshots.

I got the EM5 yesterday and will share some of my initial impressions.

The EM5 is an upgrade in sound quality and convenience from from my previous living room streaming setup (MacBook Pro > SMSL SU-9). Getting started was easy, as the EM5 has a similar layout to my portable DAP, the Fiio M11 Plus Ltd. I was listening to Tidal tracks (including MQA 352KHz) through my headphones within minutes.

Connecting to Eddict was tricky. My Android connected once, then cut out, never to return. I had more luck connecting with my iPod Touch, but I had to move my WiFi extender into the room with the EM5 to get a sufficiently strong signal for a smooth Eddict experience.

Annoyingly, Tidal twice stopped connecting to WiFi (even though the signal was strong) and I had to do factory resets to get it working again. Then I adjusted the WLAN setting to "Never" stay connected when the EM5 is in sleep mode, and so far, I haven't had this problem again.

I can't connect my Amazon Music account. I get a prompt to "update my Chrome browser." @Shanling , can you help?

Thanks for the reply! I understand that the EM5 and EA5 are brand new products, and especially during the pandemic and the way the world is changing to accommodate, so global roll-out may be slow. Great to see Apple Music was added.

Yes, Apple Music app is already available on EM5. Just make sure you have latest firmware installed and it will be available in list of streaming apps.
