Why does the battery discharge when the player is connected for charging? I noticed that it discharges as if it is not connected for charging. Does it consume more battery than it can charge? Is there a setting for this?

What charger are you using? Depending on app and other running background processes, you are probably draining your battery at a faster rate than charging it. If you are using a regular 2A charger or less, it's not fast enough. I typically use Anker IQ smart chargers, like their Nano 3 series.

I used a USB port from my laptop to charge the player. Using the phone charger, I no longer have this problem.

I didn't even mention USB port from laptop since people only use that connection for data transfer Otherwise, it is painfully slooooooow, 0.5A from a regular usb 2.0 type of port or up to 1.5A from usb3 on your laptop. Yes, use your phone charger, as a minimum
