M17 might be a purchase for later as I am sure its number is not limited and on plus might come out with another module maybe even better sounding !
i understand that fiio program is to create other modules for it..
@The jedi Baritone i never read about Fiio M17 modular design, I thought it’s born with that amp and Dac, are you sure? didn’t you mean Shanling M30?

No I wasn’t talking about M30 and not about a and k that have switchable modules like SE180 but I read somewhere that m17 has a modular design that is sure, and some friend of mine told me he thinks they night bring other modules for M17
but I might be wrong!
I think time will tell!
nevertheless it Sounds pretty amazing as it is and is also probably the most powerful DAP as of yet!

I experience the same problem and it is easy to replicate: 44.1/16 tracks in Tidal are fine, but once I listen to high-res MQA tracks the DAC easily freezes or freaks out with crackling and pops after a couple songs. Once frozen a reboot is needed.

Whats the best place to report this bug? Is Shanling support responsive?
Update:

While this freezing problem was consistently happinging at first, I cannot replicate this issue at all right now.

I've been pondering why, only two things are different:
  1. I'm currently at home, not in the office where I experienced these issues. Mayby the office wifi network has influence. VERY UNLIKELY
  2. I left the M9 running for burn in, but forgot to connect power. The battery completely drained: causing a cold reboot. This was the first cold reboot after the firmware upgrade, which had many reboots after the upgrade, but only 'warm' reboots. MORE LIKELY. :)
My guess is a true cold reboot was all my m9 needed...

Thanks everyone for responding and Shanling for reaching out!

Is it just me, or does the M9 soundstage like crazy? Listening to Fiio Crinicle IEM and I have a nice big soundstage . Who would have thunk? First use after 2 weeks of break in. The M9 seems to improve the sound of what you play like the M8.

Indeed it does! And the M9 has a nice bass kick as well. :)

Does the M9 come with factory applied screen protector? If not, anyone have a link to one? And any third party case available for these yet? The included one looks janky with poor impact protection.

The factory case is mostly open like that for a reason. The M8 and M9 are heat sinks to keep the electronics cool and dissipate heat.
