Shanling M8 Android Portable player

Didn’t work last night. This morning it worked. A pop up dialogue asked how i wanted to handle USB connection, chose DAC and off we went. However, after that I switched to test the DX300 and came back, the USB DAC didn’t come on. Even when I toggled between storage and USB DAC… Strange. As with most things Shanling, it comes and goes… :) but while it worked, it sounded good!

Were you using the Apple USB Camera dongle?

Nope. That's only necessary as an adapter to USB A. I have listening to Apple Music playing on my iPad Pro into my desktop DAC using USB C to USB B cable. No CCK.
For this experiment I used apple's USB C to USB C cable that came with the iPad Pro.
I successfully used the same cable to use the FiiO M15 as an USB DAC. Which is much more consistent in results.

Decided to plug in the USB C cable in the M8 when starting it up this time. The USB DAC screen came on when the M8 powered up. Once unplugged it goes back to normal Home Screen. But once you plug the cable in again, and tap the storage icon it converts into USB DAC again. Strange thing is when I started up earlier without the cable plugged in, even after I plugged the cable in, toggling the storage and USB DAC icon did nothing to bring the USB DAC screen up.
Let's hope this SOP will bring consistent results moving forward. :)

I do like the sonics of AM Lossless. Very transparent and dynamic.

Yet having Tidal and Amazon Music HD subscription but you are seducing me to try Apple lossless again 😉
Have you yet tried
1. Installing Apple Music App directly on M8?
-> unlimited offloading through micro SD?
-> How does SQ compare from your impressions?
2. Tried using Airplay with M8?
(Not sure any more but think it's supported on M8?)

The firmware is still a little buggy, there are several ongoing issues that need to be resolved.

Sometimes it helps to unplug it, then plug it in again...often I plug it into my computer to transfer files, and sometimes it sees it and sometimes it doesnt, but unplugging it usually resolves it.

Apple Music isn't giving the lossless audio service on Android yet. It's coming soon.

Has Apple implemented remote casting feature meanwhile?
That was a feature I always loved using Spotify app on my IPhone and browse / choose / skip locally while playing the content on my remote DAP...

There you go @FooFighter. 😆 yes Airplay works nicely for casting my mobile to the M8.
