Hmmm, sorry I did not know that. They claimed... I read in chinese forum when there first launched.
Excellent compatibility:
For headphones with a 3.5PRO balanced plug, the contact definition standard follows the original HIFIMAN 3.5mm balanced head standard. It is not only compatible with the existing HIFIMAN standard 3.5mm balanced jack players on the market (including QA361, Xiangsheng MR1 and HIFIMAN full series players, etc.). In addition, it can also be used directly on the 3.5mm single port of most players. The user only needs a 3.5PRO balanced port earphone to take into account both the balanced port and the single port, and no adapter cable is needed.

Ebay is probably your best bet, something like this would work but it depends on the cable you are using really.Does anyone know where to buy 3.5 PRO upgrade plug for modification to the cable?

If it didnt have red tag, it is not 3.5 pro.

It is a replacement plug, it doesn't need a red "tag". If you need it to be red, solder it on and paint it red.If it didnt have red tag, it is not 3.5 pro.
PS I'm going back to lurking and not helping, this site is just too frustrating sometimes.

And why would you do that? There's no impact on sound - 2.5 is more compact and lighter while 4.4 is way more robust. I guess 3.5 is kind of a compromise between size and robustness but it's not an upgrade.
Another standard only adds some confusion and nothing else. And a dead one at that - 3.5 balance was first and present on old hifiman players but it first lost the battle with ak 2.5mm standard and now it seems 4.4 is getting ahead. Shanling is circling back now to 3.5... pointless other than to seemingly add "new" possibilities.
Shanling Audio is not the one behind 3.5Pro. It's not our creation, not our standard.
We are just adding it as one of options on the M8, since it's easy to add it with the replacement socket system.
No it can't be - it's a balanced plug, there's different combination of pins. You can actually damage your phone or headphones with it, though I don't know how likely it is.
3.5Pro pinout was adjusted, so that it can be used on standard outputs.

3.5Pro uses special recessed socket on the player, so 3.5Pro connector needs to have this spacer ring to fit properly.
Standard connectors, like the one linked from Ebay, will not fit.
Have any question about our players? Just PM me or send me email.

Is this not the "spacer ring" you are talking about? If I'm wrong then my advice is totally useless, so that's even more reason to stop trying to help.

No, this is not the spacer ring for 3.5PRO, it will not fit into 3.5PRO connector! On these designs, spacer was there so connector can fit if you had some thick case.
For 3.5PRO, you need special spacer, that's little bit thinner. According to the standard of China Headphone Association, who is behind the 3.5Pro, all connectors of 3.5PRO should have this spacer in red color, to make compatibility clear.
Here is example from Fidue:

I wonder why there is 3.5 PRO female to 3.5 mm Single end for? Isn't it claimed to be compatible with single end DAP/Smartphone with no adapter need? No, this is not the spacer ring for 3.5PRO, it will not fit into 3.5PRO connector! Well there you go, I've learnt something new today. No, this is not the spacer ring for 3.5PRO, it will not fit into 3.5PRO connector! On these designs, spacer was there so connector can fit if you had some thick case.

I would hope with 2.5, 3.5(unbalanced), 3.5 (S-Balanced) and 4.4 everybody outside of China avoids 3.5Pro as we probably don't need another plug standard unless absolutely forced to use it. I think the 4.4mm Pentacon will probably become the standard in the west for portable balanced audio and one could argue that has probably already happened.

Apparently it's due to some compatibility problems, as 3.5mm TRRS can be causing issue with some devices.

@awayeah, @artpiggo,
Just some general info on 3.5 pro or 3.5 mm Balanced plugs, these have been around for a long time...I use them already for various audio gear for several years now...actually my preference if possible otherwise I use 4.4 mm or regular 3.5 mm if I'm changing sources a lot & don't want to use adapters.
The most well known & easy to find can be found from Penon Audio as adapters.
Most cable makers do offer 3.5 Balanced as a plug option too.
There is nothing wrong with connecting said 3.5 balanced to a regular 3.5 mm socket, just one channel, usually the left, sometimes the right, won't work as there is usually nothing to connect to the 3rd ground pin or ring.
It is important to note 3.5 Balanced shouldn't be confused with cables with a microphone line so if you see a 3.5 mm plug with four poles or rings on the plug, definitely avoid using those...
Depending on how a DAP or head amp's internal circuits are designed & laid out, 3.5 Balanced plugs will work with no issue.
The only sockets they don't tend to work properly with are phones (whether they have a headphone jack or not, refer back to explanation above) or internal circuits which are specifically laid out to run single ended.
Here's a trick to know whether a DAP or head amp can support 3.5 Balanced, with said balanced plug, if long enough, can reach far enough in the 3.5 mm socket to work...so if a 3.5 Balanced plug is short or run through an extension cable with a short plug, it definitely won't work.
Hope this all makes sense, feel free to ask more if necessary.
Hope you both have a great day !
