I used the M8 during many months with the 3.5 Pro (balanced) plug, than I bought an adapter to test the 4.4 plug, WAOW what an upgrade, another DAP with a real High End sound, I did not expect such difference, I use it with a Kennerton GH50 (closed back), great combo !

Interesting… what do you think the difference is due to?

Shouldn’t there be no difference between a balanced (3.5 pro) and a balanced (4.4) output? Same power output and same architecture etc.

Not sure where you got the idea that the output power would be the same… Balanced usually would be more, if not double. Here’s the product information page for M8 on the Shanling website.

He is saying 3.5PRO, which is a balanced connection, so there would be no difference.

I was surprised, it seems the 4.4 is not tuned like the other balanced outputs.
There’s more precision, bass, dynamic, separation, trebles…

There should be no difference between balanced ports. I could only guess that there might be something going on with your 3.5Pro connector, not sure what else could make such difference.

I also noticed a difference by using another Micro SD card, they do not sound exactly the same.

i found a bug yesterday.

when i open the shanling music app in the m8 and listen to an artist.

one can see the album cover in the middle, big. bottom right on the picture are 3 dots. clicking on that shows that i can switch to the artist.

so it switches to the artist, shows me now both albums the one that is playing and the other one.

however, once in click on the other album, it jumps ALWAYS buck to the currently playing album (overview screen).

is this a known issue?

I re-scanned it multiple times. Always the same Problem.

i click on the 3 dots on the right side of the picture / artist.

so i see both albums of this artist: 1) happier than ever and 2) when we all fall asleep.

when i click on the 2) album, it jumps back to 1) album.

even worse: when playing a song on album 2) and i click on the 3 dots / artist, one can see album 1) and 2) on the bottom. however, on the top, i see 3 song suggestions. one is from album 1). i click on it. it plays it, great. so while playing a song from album 1), i click again on the 3 dots and in this case on "album"... it jumps to album 2).

No, not seeing such behavior on my unit.

If you wish, you can send me these two albums from you in PM, to check what might be wrong.
