Shanling M3X Portable Player - Our smallest Android Player

Do you recommend any setup?
The only flaw of Poweramp is forced resampling. I did not find any way to disable resampling.
If I remember correctly, the best setup is to turn off all the items it's trying to force. There is some way how to turn it all off, just bit complicated.

I was also unable to work around fixed sample rates with poweramp.

You have the three output backends, Java, OpenAL and hi-res. Neither seem to do the correct thing. They either down-sample to 44.1k, or upsample to the wrong rate.

I also noticed that with many third-party apps, the equalisers won't work with the M3X. It does work on poweramp, but not on Musicolet (unless you use the internal musicolet decoder, which resamples to 44.1).

@Shanling Do you think the bug where albums of the same name get merged will be fixed any time soon (in the Shanling app)?
It's in the app since the beginning in 2019, so not sure when it might be fixed.

How will I know if the ess dac of my m3x is now working? Is there any other way to troubleshoot it? Both single and dual dac mode sounds the same. It doesn't sound the same when I first got it.

Is your balanced output working? If yes, both DACs are working just fine.

Well, I do like the idea of using the stock Shanling app without having to install anything from app stores. Especially since many apps Ive installed off apkpure either don't behave right or sound right on the M3X.

For example Hiby Music is unstable and crashes. Poweramp is really quiet and doesn't sound right if you turn it up. Many apps output at a fixed 386khz (or whatever) sample rate, which probably means wasting battery with upsampling.

The one exception to the rule I've found is musicolet. Once you change the decoder to "system decoder", everything works as it should.

I know many people like UAPP, but is there a way to install it without play store? It's not on apkpure, and there's no way I'm typing my google password into a device running Android 7!

I didn't read everything since my last connection on head-fi there, so hope this is not going to be a duplicate, but it seems that you're looking for a good music player on APKPure, allowing to play more-less bit perfect or so (no upsampling to the max by default, etc... ).

I checked, Neutron music player is a great candidate: Neutron on APKPure

Actually you can download first the Eval version to see if it works for you. I often use Neutron on my M3X, it's a great player although a bit overwhelming at a glance. But you can, in the settings, force the use of native frequency of the tracks (no upsampling or whatever). It exists the official website too, to help setting the best parameters for bit-perfect mode for instance: Official Neutron website

Have a good day,

Could you not give your software engineers a nudge? I'm sure your loyal customers would really appreciate it! (the album bug fixed and gapless support).

I notice that Fiio music plays music at the right samples rates, has gapless, and has a functional EQ. Sadly the UI is a bit sluggish though.

I couldn't get on with the UI for neutron. It's too cluttered.

I can assure you that our software team gets this feedback, both from me for international market and from my Chinese colleagues. But that's all we can do.

Fiio, HiBy or UAPP are among the most popular 3rd party players on our DAPs.

In case anyone else is experiencing Hiby Music app crashing on the M3X when you skip to the next track, this was a new bug introduced in version 4.1.3.

Version 4.1.2 does not have this issue.

Hopefully Hiby will fix this soon.
Thanks for report.

Hi, I am considering buying this DAP (it would be my first) but I just want to make sure it will work fine for my use case. I will mainly be using Sony WH-1000XM5 Bluetooth headphones with LDAC. I will also use wired headphones from time to time. I plan on converting my entire music library from FLAC to opus so I can fit everything on a 512GB microSD card. I currently have 40,000 songs and I plan on using Poweramp as my primary music player. I will apply track Replaygain so the volume is consistent throughout my library. I mainly listen to my music on shuffle, either shuffling the entire library or playlists.

Does all of the above sound reasonable with this DAP? Will a large library of ~40,000 songs work fine, or will I run into any issues?

This is more questions regarding the poweramp. M3X should work fine with these headphones over LDAC.
