Shanling M1s Compact Portable Player - Now With Tidal Streaming!
Jun 29, 2023 at 1:43 AM Post #46 of 126
Hello guys.
Got my m1s and loving it so far.
Unfortunately I have trouble connecting it with my apple tv box 4k.
When connected via airplay I get out of sync audio for a couple of seconds and then nothing.
I am trying to connect via bt but after I select m1s from the other devices section I get a prompt on the m1s with a passcode o hit enter but nothing happens.... Restarted several times but nothing happens.
Using firmware version 2.0
Any advice ? maybe @Shanling?
No experience with Apple TV Box, will report to software team.

Other devices work fine?

Hello.
I tried to reset the unit. no luck.
M1s will not Even connect to Apple TV box via bt. This is so bad. It was one of the top reasons I got it, so that I could enjoy my headphones connected to the tv via airplay or bt.
When connecting m1s to any phone the same code that shows up on the unit screen, shows up on the phone screen so after approving on both sides it connects.
On Apple TV there is no code showing up.

There is a bug there.

Connects ok on several iphones I tried and on my MacBook m1 pro. Also connects fine with my fiio k7 bt as a transmitter and with other bt headphones as transmitter.

Also connects via airplay from my iPhone and MacBook. works over 2.4 and 5g networks.

It's only on the apple tv box that it doesn't work

So you can listen to Spotify on it using the Bluetooth DAC feature and connecting it to your phone? Does that give sound through the M1S and would it compromise sound quality at all through wired headphones? How much percentage of it if so?

1. While M1s is not designed to be used as USB DAC with iOS, it currently works, tested with our L3 cable. But we didn't test it in combination with Bluetooth transmitter.

2. Currently there are no streaming services on M1s.
thanks. I tried looking for the mentioned L3 cable on your website but couldn't find it. can you PM me the link or share it here please.

do you make any other product which I can connect to my iphone and use that as the streamer into a DAC which will then transmit a high-res bluetooth signal to my bluetooth headset?

Hello. Any updates on this? i cant connect the M1s to apple tv box via BT or Airplay. This is really annoying as it was #1 reason to choose this vs M0 pro.
Thanks in advance!

On the side of Airplay, it seems Apple TV box demands Airplay 2, which is not something M1s can support.
And on Bluetooth, our software team don't have access to Apple TV Box, so it's unlikely to be fixed any time soon.

Yes, you can use M1s as Bluetooth DAC with your phone and any audio app you wish.
Only degradation in this way of signal would be the Spotify quality and Bluetooth connection (depending on which codec you use). The DAC/Amp of M1s would function as if you were playing directly from M1s local files.

No, we have no dedicated Bluetooth transmitter for iOS.

Wow cool. So if I just play directly off Spotify, there would be absolutely no degradation in sound when compared to something like, say, a computer or a totally wired connection?

You add the Bluetooth connection to the chain. But given the lower quality of the Spotify files, there should be likely no degradation if you run it with LDAC codec.

depends on your bluetooth connection as mentioned by Shanling. check to see what is supported. for instance with an iphone the best quality you can get is aac or sbc. these don’t hold a candle to LDAC or aptx adaptive. also your headphones need to support these codecs if you want to stream to them from the m1.

Clarifying question:
can i use the l3 cable to connect my iphone to my m1 dac

i want to use the iphone to send music using your suggested cable to the m1
once i play music on the iphone, again wired to the m1, am i able to bluetooth transmit the music to my ifi go pods or other ldac supported device?

sorry for being a bit specific. here as that would be my only use case and for many others in a related thread.

i live in the UK and the cable does not ship here from amazon USA. do you have a distributor in the UK or can ship it here. will the ddhifi or other similar otg lightning or usb cable work?

does the m1 have a dac only mode so it does not draw current from the iphone?

My main headphones for music are wired actually. I probably won't care as much about the sound from my wireless ones because they're cheaper lol.

Excuse me, but did you really reply, that a company like Shanling, doesn't have access to the latest Apple TV box to test and fix a bug that one of the latest products launched is facing? You understand that when you launch a product that has airplay connectivity, apple users will buy this product for this feature, right?
How are we going to connect our M1s to our Apple TV if you dont fix the BT connectivity issue?

Is there any change you will at least update the airplay protocol?

I do this all the time. I confirm that you can do that.

1) pair your BT headphone to M1s.
2) connect your M1s to iPhone/iPad/MacBook etc
3) connect your BT headphone to M1s.
4) your music will stream to the best available codec. It seems you dont even have to select the Headphone codec, the m1s connects to the best automatically. For example. my Momentum 4 have aptX HD. Even if I haven't enabled the AptX HD from the iPhone app and even I have LDAC selected from the M1s, Momentum 4 connect with AptX HD. I can confirm I have established connection also with LDAC HQ, also with Bt headsets and the Fiio K7 BT.

If streaming from Macbook or any source you can select the sample rate, it should be <=192000Hz or else you will not get any sound.

I can also confirm that the connection is really really stable and that you can listen to the difference compared with iPhone acc.

hope this helps

Hi Titans,
thanks for your details reply. just some clarifications:

in 2) you mention "connect your M1s to iPhone/iPad/MacBook etc" - do you mean connect by wire? if yes which cable are you using?
in 4) you mention "if I haven't enabled the AptX HD from the iPhone app and even I have LDAC selected from the M1s, Momentum 4 connect with AptX HD". to my knowledge the iPhone can only use AAC or SBC codecs and not AptX HD. With this in mind are you stating that you have selected the M1s bluetooth codec from an app within the iPhone?

I was trying the creative W5 earlier today but the disturbance was quite high with crackling, losses of the song etc. This would be a huge deal for me if I can play tidal / Apple Music etc from my iPhone to my LDAC or APTx HD to my bt headsets.

I just want to be 100% want to be sure as I have invested a few hundred in dongles and the hiBy r2 which was promised as a fix.

At the end of the day I want to use this device as a DAC and a Bluetooth transmitter. I don't care for any other built in features and I will never put in a memory card to play music as I stream everything and that which I have encoded is all in ALAC which requires an Apple Music player.
