I agree with you somewhat, with their many HD iterations that sometimes confuse me. But hey, overall it is a great audio company.

They also have this tiny little microphone division.. that's one of the largest in the world...

Audiophile collection! Yeah right...

Sadly I think their products sell quite well, to all those young people who do not know better.

Na do it for the street cred. I actually would like to see more Skullcandy on the streets. I'll just grin that much more. Especially when they honestly believe they have a set of audiophile headphones. Look out Sennheiser someones gunning for you. Pink furred fru-fru headphones as far as the eye can see!

I'll start painting my headphones in alien green so I can tell people they are 'audiophile headphone' and get some 'cred'.

With an audiophile company/retailer like Headroom having Skull Candy on their Top-Ten list, they're now going to have the "cred" they need. Note my sarcastic tone. I understand Headroom's need to make money, but I'm disappointed in their new approach. I think they're going to alienate the core group that built their company when they try to peddle inferior products as audiophile level quality. Rant over. Ross

To be fair, they never claim that any of the Skullcandy models are audiophile quality (nor would one expect any of them to be, given their relatively low cost and clear emphasis on style and thumping bass).

However, I do share your general sentiment.

When you see a Top-Ten list of best headphones and you see real audiophile 'phones on the list, the casual observer could certainly infer that a Skullcandy is of that quality. And when SC does call a line of their product 'audiophile' then they conpound it. Headroom does a disservice to companies such as Grado who have dedicated themselves to excellent products, even at affordable prices.

Putting any Skullcandy product in any reputable headphone retailer will give those poor suckers a really big excuse for them to be proud of themselves to be SC owners. Then seconds after that they will run around their neighborhood shouting out that Skullcandy is teh best headphonez evarr. Typical misinformation.

Misinformation is not even half of the issue.
A lot of people have become acustomed to large bass responses or even like a nice big bass response.

If that is "misinformation", then call head-fi a conglomerate of misinformed people. DT880, K701, HD650. 650 is the most popular here, yet it is the most inferior from a tech spec point of view.

The qualia 010 is technically a fantastic headphone, yet opinions on it are heavily divided.

Music is subjective. Maybe to some of these people skullcandy is the best.
