Sennheiser x Massdrop HD6XX Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV

I'm very interested, but I have no idea if my current sources can power this properly. I'm coming from an HD598, and I have:

 1. HTC 10
 2. Fiio E11

Can either of these drive the HD6xx properly?

I'd say buy them cause of the E11. The HTC10 won't do it though. And you can always get a different amp later if you want.

I have run HD600s off a Centrance DACPort Slim with high gain. And while that might not be perfect, the HD600s still sounded very good. Did it sound as good as running it with a Woo Audio WA2 IMO no but that doesn't mean that it won't still sound very good.

Was hyped then noticed that they are £250 on Amazon.co.uk so the Massdrop is not really worth it for people in the UK once you add import tax, handling fees and the terrible exchange rate. Shame really but I am tempted to just get a set of HD650s now anyway :p

Damn, just what I was thinking... HD 700's anyone?

Depends on condition and price, you can buy a like new pair on amazon right now for 300 when you add them to cart.

Does anyone else think the measurements on innerfidelity look closer to HD600 than HD650? I hope we're not getting HD600 dressed as HD650. I already have HD600 and don't want another one.

EDIT: His HD600 measurements are probably very old now. I wonder if current HD600 sounds a bit different. His measuring rig has probably changed as well

I was thinking the same thing,

Curious though as to why these are assumed to be 650s and not 600s, obviously it’s the driver capsule used and not the color, headband pad and grills that determine the sound, Jude did say they sound just like a stock 650s but apparently some have reported that the current 650s sound more like the 600s.
He also mentioned it was only "confirmed with listening and measurements"  and not by looking at the actual driver.

We've confirmed it's the same headphone (confirmed with listening and measurements, which you'll see in the video), only now it's a lot more affordable.

Another point....Hopefully they’ll limit quantities per customer so we do not have hoarding, max of one each would be fine by me, then with any luck I’ll be able to get one.

Just signed up for the HD6XX. I'll probably wait to sell my HD700s until I find out if I'm one of the 5000 to get one. There's close to 11,000 now.

The info that it's an HD650 rather than HD600 comes from Massdrop who set the whole project up with Sennheiser. Now, if Senn is making modern HD650 examples that sound more like what some people associate with HD600, I suppose there's no accounting for that.

For my part, the HD6XX is very obviously an HD650. I've owed quite a few of each model over the years and I don't think there's much question about it. YMMV.

I'm excited about this drop! I'm still kicking myself for selling the 650 set I had before!

Silly question. Can I get this with a normal cable and later swap it out with a balanced cable (XLR 4pin)? It said on Massdrop that this version of the 650's had a detachable cable.

Yes, you can swap cables. The Sennheiser HD600, HD650, and now the HD6XX all have detachable cables, and use the same earpiece jack/plug types.

The cable is detachable so you can swap it out whenever you want, including using a balanced cable.

Thanks for the clarifying.

Next drop I want an all black version bundled with a balanced cable and a DAC-less Jotunheim for 500$. :)

I like your use of colors, and enthusiasm! Please don't asphyxiate waiting for that to happen!

If you're on the site at the launch time you will get one, I have never missed a massdrop that I wanted. ThX00 included.
