Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 Impressions Thread

Because the bass boost toggle adds a lot more subbase and the reduced bass slider takes away some of the upper bass which leads to a much cleaner separated midrange. Just try it out it actually sounds really good.

Minute 4:55 shows the FR with Bass Boost on and no other EQ adjustment.

That's an interesting take on managing bass on these. I tried the -Bass db + bass boost setting and can see how that may benefit some music types.

Hi all.

I am now going on my 2nd pair of Momentum 3s since around May 2022 from Amazon but I'm now returning my current (1st!) pair for the final time and will not be reordering these earbuds again this is the last chance

I've noticed that after around 12 weeks of fresh out of the box usage, the right ear bud develops an issue where it is suddenly a lot quieter than the left one, Have tried everything - resetting to factory, updating, refreshing connections, etc… but have concluded it’s definitely a hardware issue.

As well as the quiet issue on the right ear bud, it also develops a high pitched popping ringing sound that pings every so often on the same quieter bud

Also the tips are rubbish the inner protective sponge has fallen out of both tips and has created some sticky residue from the protective chamber of the headset. I have even noticed at time the end must be stuck on with tape or something as theee have also come of at times and stuck to the tips. Not good at all never had this on the 2s

I am led to believe that this is a major manufacturor issues that is unheard of for Sennheiser in my experience. Very disappointing! Not sure I will
Keep these now as had them 4 months and nothing but problems. The version 2s I had for a year and a half and never had any problems.

These seem to have build quality issues.

Sorry to hear you were not satisfied with these. We have not experienced anything similar to what you have encountered and will DM you for some follow up questions about your usage, devices, and any helpful images you can provide.

While looking to pad out an Amazon order, I found the Comply TW-400 C eartips that claimed compatibility with MTW3. As I'm looking to find the right fit between standard and shallow insertion, I took a chance on my usual M size. Despite claims to the contrary, the tips don't fit well in the charging case. I can't get them to reliably turn off & stay off, a problem I had with Comply's tips for the B&O E8 3.0. And since I carry these in my pocket, I don't need them turning on when not in use and killing my phone, buds, and case batteries. Probably my last time buying Comply.
Edit: I sure was presumptuous (and pissed) when I wrote this. It's true that the earbuds don't exactly snap into the case with the same relative ease they do on smaller eartips. But my assumption that they wouldn't turn off is because I did not realize opening the case itself activates Bluetooth with my phone. So that connection is what I was seeing on my phone the other day. I've used the tips the last several days and have not had an issue yet with the earbuds not shutting off, or turning themselves on in the case. I know my older E8s would indeed play music through the buds if they weren't seated correctly thanks to those memory foam tips, but I have not had that problem with M3TW.

While I am quite happy with my Sennheiser Momentum 3 Wireless earphones, I find myself using them inside mostly, when I'm working or otherwise stationary. I use my AirPods Pro more outside, especially on walks with my dog, largely due to the comfort factor and the fact the Momentums have wind noise issues (they're better, but not perfect with the wind ANC setting turned on). I have smaller-sized ear canals, and the Momentums are bulky. Though the Sennheisers have much better sound than the Apple earphones, they're not nearly as comfortable.

I pre-ordered the new AirPods Pro 2nd Generation, which are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. They're the same size and form factor as the previous generation, so I assume the comfort level won't change. It'll be interesting to see if Apple has improved on their sound, and if they could be serious competitors in that aspect. I doubt it, but I'll keep an open mind.

Be interested In What you say as I got a refund on the mtw3. As I am looking at the apple but do want good sound quality.

It’s a shame the mtw3 had the problems I had the left ear totally went off. And the protective cover that sticks on top of the ear tip of the plastic nozzle came of and was stuck to the inside of the ear tips. Then the sponge in the tips coming out. But not only that there’s features misssing from the v2 like transparency when taking to people when your on the phone no option to turn wind on and off on the buds you got to use the app for that. No high quality music playback like the v2 They just seem a back step from the 2s apart from slight better sound. No anc control to. I am deciding on the AirPods or some cans like the Xm5 or apples as I have read some people are having plastic creaking sounds from the new m4 cans by Senn.

High end items like this should not do that.

Sorry to hear. Seems like there are some QC issues. I read the same about the creaking on the Momentum 4. My set of MTW3 have been great so far (none of the issues you mentioned) and I really like them but they have been collecting dust for the last 2 weeks or so because multipoint still has not been released and switching devices is a pain. I bought the PX7 S2 a few weeks ago (decided to not wait for PX8) because you cant turn off ANC on the Momentum 4 (or on some of the new Bose stuff apparently so Sennheiser is not alone here). Seems like bluetooth tech is still full of compromises.

I have had the B&W PI7s and now the PX7 S2 and I really like B&W's implementation of connection management (switching sources easily and also ability to choose device to always connect to). Hoping Sennheiser can implement something similar on the MTW3.

Would love a tentative date/timeline for the firmware update. Please let us know, it will help a potential buyer like me to seal the deal. I want to pull the trigger but this does hold me back.
I cannot disclose the exact date and expect to still be employed, but I can tell you it's soon.

The problem is this should of been out day one.

There’s been no update for other problems since launch

1. when u put the headset back into the case they still stay connected to the phone. Many times I have come back with flat headsets. v2 never had this problem

2. Very very slow connection to the app

3. No ANC adjustments

4. There way to sensitive at picking up breezes when anc is turned on

5 no way of activation wind anc with the buds you have to go to the app all the time to do this.

6. No High-End Sound Tuning option v2 have this

7 no transparency mode when on a call. v2 have this

8. Not enough Volume adjustments as it’s about 7 from 0 to full needs more adjustments as the jump are way to much and you have to revert to the phone to adjust these small changes

These needed to be addressed but in the 4 months they have been out not one update to fix any of the problems above.

They do sound excellent and prob the best sounding wireless buds I have had but there also more to it and that. Plus the build issues I have had. But that’s another matter

Heyo!

To be honest I created account just to write in this topic.

I see so many people are frustrated with MTW3 (just go to reddit...) and I can't blame them!

I could call myself some kind of Sennheiser Evangelist - I convinced few friends to go with MTW 2 instead of other options.
I was always honest - "you can't find better sound in TW earphones, but UX is... not great, but at the end of the day, it isn't terrible also (although rather bellow average in this price).
What was sad is that 2 of them had to bring earphones to repair, because they broke (didn't have problems with mine tho... but lost them in the airplane ;().

I had MTW2 since the beginning and it took like 2-3 months for them to work properly - as Senneheiser fan I was treated as a fool, or simply - a beta tester.
Nevertheless I knew that I will buy MTW3 because of multipoint and the fact that music quality is the most important part for me...
Learned by previous "beta testing" I decided that I will wait ~3 months before buying new earphones...
Unfortunately, as I already mentioned, I've lost them in the airplane and had to buy new ones at the premiere.

Despite what other people say - they were working better than MTW2 (comparing to young ones), although still were extremely buggy. Most critical bugs were resolved faster than in MTW2... but we didn't have any info about multipoint or any other upgrades - f.e. we have "adaptive" ANC, but we have to change setting when it's windy (What - it's adversity of being adaptive!).
I understand that you aren't able to share when we can expect multipoint - but from our perspective - fans, who trusted Sennheiser and bought "fresh" MTW3 despite bad press, it's really crappy. It's really crappy how we are treated. We should be notified when we can expect it, what you are working on right now - or do you even hear and understand our pain and trying to solve those issues.
I will stick to Sennheiser because I love the sound... but I won't be able to recommend your products to anyone anymore and you aren't doing anything to change it.

Fun fact: in my MTW3 wireless charging doesn't work since the beginning :frowning2: When I put them at MagSafe, diode flashes for a while (something like 1m), makes strange sounds, and charging is turned off completely). Off course I should send them for the repair - but c'mon - I need them on daily basis and can't wait weeks before they come back to me :/.

First off, welcome to the community, and thanks for being a loyal Sennheiser customer through the years!

I've seen the reddit threads and we've been investigating and reviewing returned units for further diagnosis to connect the dots. While we strive for 100% satisfaction and reliability, the % of failures is taken serious, even when it is a very, very, very small percent of units sold.

Here's the truth about multipoint release date expectations: if the update were to be delayed because it needs more work, we will have let you down by missing that date. If we meet the date but it is not satisfactory, we have let you down. The best option is to get the update to you as soon as feasible so that the experience improves. It is being worked on for deployment and will be available soon, when ready. Sorry it cannot be sooner, trust me I wish this were available at launch as well. If I choose to be silent about the pending release, some customers may return them, only to become frustrated when it is finally released, saying "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US?!!?" So, I kindly ask for some additional patience, and reassure you that it is coming 🙏 I'll DM you about the charging.
