Sennheiser MOMENTUM Review

If they release a new momentum which has bigger cups / pads / soundstage then I will buy that definately. The standard momentum is a really nice headphone but it is too damn small to use properly at home (not outside).

I sent an email to Sennheiser's tech support and asked them specifically about a larger replacement ear cup for the Momentum.

And here's what I got in reply:

[size=12.0pt]Good afternoon-

Thank you for contacting technical support, at this time we do not offer a a bigger option for this model, Germany is working on this an it will be probably happen early next year. please keep checking to see when they become available.

I hope that the "bigger option" is a replacement ear cup part of some sort and not an entirely different model...I JUST bought my Momentums yesterday and love them but would prefer to have a slightly larger ear cup for my male adult sized elephant ears.

I thought Senns cups were interchangeable with similar models, anyone can confirm this?

I was not suggesting in my post that the OE pad would be swappable with the original circumaural pads. I did suggest, as it was stated in the email reply from Sennheiser, that there WOULD be something available later in the year or in the first part of next year that would give the original Momentum a larger earpad option in some way. I'm hoping that they will be interchangeable with the earpads that are currently on the Momentum.

Finally Senn gets it. In a global recession they can move double the amount of this SKU by selling an extra pair of pads on top.

They took their time :)

Just got a pair today.    I like them so far.  The highs and mids are incredible.

I like my DT1350 better though.   If you could take a little of the Mometum's midbass away and increase the subbass, they would sound very similar.   The DT1350s isolate a little bit better, but the Momentums are more comfortable (I have small ears).   I'm keeping both, but if I could only keep one, I would chose the Beyerdynamic model for its mind boggling sub-bass.

I Wish!!!! Unfortunately I have long ears and I couldn't get DT1350s to seal so they sounded forward and lacking bass while Momentums sounded fun for a closed HP because of the smallish ear pad, the seam just inside the earpad pressed on my ear and became quite painful after a half hour or so. I had to sell both.

I'm rather looking forward to the MOEs. If they sound similar to the Momentum or Amperiors I'll sign up for a pair.

I think the Momentums sound much better with an amp.

Straight out of my iPad and my iPhone5 the bass is just a little bloated.  When I hook them up to the Yulong D100 or my Fiio E7 the bass is tighter and...err...just better.

The DT1350s sound just as good with or without an amp.

I'm happy with the purchase.   I can understand why this is one of Tyll's favorite headphones.

I can definitely see that. I have my iPhone 4s volume cranked to the max so the sound can be where I like it, if I mess with the equalizer at all it's quieter than I want it. I've just been avoiding sinking money into a portable amp because there are other things I need my money for right now.
