Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Here in Australia, preliminary price for the IE800 is AUD 1,199 this compares to the AKG K3003 which had a RRP of AUD 1,299. Deals were able to be done for the AKG (>1000), but I understand a lot less margin to move on the Sennheisers.

frankly, even with all the tech and even though i havent heard them yet, i think they are a ripoff
the 1k mark is intruding into ciem territory and even the vaunted fitear 334

i bet if sennheiser priced it at a more reasonable $500, they would be selling like hotcakes...

Thing is if the sound is on par with full custom IEMs (high end ones) they very much deserve the asking price. What I look forward to though is them going on sale. The IE80s go for $450.00 retail but you can get them for $270 :).

Unless someone gets the chance to listen to them for a prolonged time in quiet surroundings and A/B with other stuff, there won't be reliable impressions. At least I haven't read any so far.

A friend and I have both ordered for €699 from Germany, which would translate into about $780 (excluding shipping and possible import tax) for buyers outside the EU.

But there's a reason why I haven't yet disclosed where I ordered from, I've never dealt with that seller before and have no way of knowing how reliable and trustworthy they are. Anyway, they do offer international shipping and as soon as I feel confident that our orders have been fulfilled as promised, I'll post a link to the store.

Edit: corrected price estimate in $, sorry for the miscalculation.

Very nice James. Taking one for the team . Let me know how good they are if indeed it is worth it I may have to get rid of both my IE80 and MDR-7550s to fund them :p.

Hi James, I am really interested in knowing if these are vented and thus equalize to ambient pressure in the ear canal or whether they are fully sealed. The former may affect isolation somewhat but is attractive to me as you may know from my previous posts.

Looking forward to your impressions including, please, the above issue and the isolation that results from whichever it is. Thank you!

I was in Hong Kong recently. Inquired at Jaben about the IE800. Was told the IE800 would be available in HK end Nov or early Dec. Price was expected to be HK$6000 = US$775 = €610.

I want these badly but looking for some reviews/feedback before sinking that type of cash on IEMs ( that I'll probably lose).

Sennheiser marketing and the look / build makes these very appealing.

I love the idea of porting on ear phones as long as the bass is at reference levels and not at the expense of clarity and overall reproduction.

Seriously looking forward to reading up on these, I have IE8 from Sennheiser and if they are that much better I would consider them, Cheapest I've found them in the UK is £599 for pre-order and are expected to get them end of november. Ive asked them to give me a ring when they hear anything else. Knowing Sennheiser, I feel they may be onto something, but that price seems a little blown out of the water for most people to even think about. With me being a student, Im going to have to start saving.
