Sennheiser IE800 IEM's

Like many, I'm finding the stock case a pretty poor affair.  Sure, It's probably a very safe place for the ie800 to live but it's a pretty awkward affair when out and about.  So I've been looking for interesting alternatives - and I believe I've found one.  I was looking at some horseshoe coin wallets on-line and reckoned that this was the way to go so my mission was to find a really great quality one.

Today, while out and about with my wife (am on vacation!), I found myself in a Mulberry boutique - she's addicted to their stuff....  They had a men's section with lots of fancy bags and whatnot.  In the wallets cabinet I found they had a coin wallet on sale for €45 (down from €120) so I bought it!  Have a look at the pics...  I think it'll do the job just right!  The ie800s fit perfectly and not at all tight.  It tapers a little towards the top so there's more room at the bottom. The rim of the cover is stiff so there's a fair bit of protection too.  There's also a little flap-covered pocked to store the cleaning tool should I choose to.  It's in a dark brown colour and matches my AK120 quite well in the brown cover...!

As it was written by someone here, mine ie 800 has the problem with the left cable too. The right cable is soft and easy bendable, but the left cable is getting harder and harder. This is pretty **** quality for that kind of price, once I find the left cable too hard, I´m sending them back, my serial number is 17737.

I was one of the people who wrote about this, it is well known about the cable issue and I feel that people should stop bashing it yes it's a crappy problem but they also have a great warranty use it if need be....I've had two pair that have been sent back and replaced so yes I was a little upset but I also understand that with any new product problems may appear, we just hope they've been working on this and it seems or at least in some cases that they have....the problem is that there are still old stock out there in the wild so yes some people may end up with them and when they do they can send them back home for a replacement. This will and would only be a problem if they weren't doing anything about it...

Still quite odd it doesn't have detachable cables

Actually not odd at all if you look at the size of the earphone and take into calculation the weight...already been covered pages back they should've came up with a special connector for cables but there we probably would've heard people complain about those too until a cable maker came up with a fix:relieved:...

Even considering the size, I'd trust Sennheiser to be capable of coming up with a suitable connection in order to help people with cable issues.

I'm also one of the people with the left cable syndrome. It seems illogical, IMHO, that Sennheiser would use two different cable stocks for left and right but that doesn't change the fact that there is a difference. I just received my second replacement pair today for this problem. That puts my personal count at three, total. I was told to return my pair to the attention of the product specialist this time, which I did. My first pair serial # was 16xxx, my second was 21xxx, this replacement is 17xxx. The mythical serial series fix is a bit dubious. Sennheiser pays for all shipping, gives prompt service but that doesn't mitigate the fact that it's a PITA.

To help people with cable issues? Ok if you say I'll agree to disagree because they would just improve the cable structure and maybe just maybe in the next version when they release it maybe in another year or so they may change the design slightly I just hope not much as its a good design and I don't think they would put as much design effort into it if they weren't keeping it for at least two versions of their high end ......but one never knows ......sorry you're having issues as I did too "with two pair but I still like the sound and they have a good warranty"

Let's say you have an issue with your cable, because accidents and defects do happen. Which is easier, replacing the cable or having to send the whole iem in to deal with the problem?

Let's say you did yes it would be easy to replace the detachable cables if they came with them but they didn't so as I have a set that I just sent to be modded with a new cable from the 2.5 connection ...with 3.5 balanced along with new copper cable made to 2.5 balanced to go with my AK240 then an extra terminated in unbalanced to play along with everything else "similar to the ALO modded iE800"...so I think that a good cable modder could if needed be replace the cables if you needed or you could just send them back under warranty for a new pair ....it would've made it easy yes but they didn't design them that way and we knew this before we brought them so I'm good with it and the 2.5 break works well to relieve stress on the cable if needed....

another question, when you send the headphones back for repair or replacement, they will send brand new box I mean bx with new case eartis etc, or they just send new headphones alone?

I got a brand new package with everything in it.  I assumed that I would only get a headphone replacement because only sent the phones back originally.   So, now I have two sets of everything - except the headphones.   I guess that is a nice bonus for having to send it back for replacement.   It is nice to have the extra tips.

Both times the box and  all contents, except eartips, were sent back. The first time, a sealed box was returned. The second time, the seal was broken but the contents appeared to be brand new. I assume the seal was broken by the product specialist, as it was sent to his attention, to possibly assess the condition of the replacement before sending it to me.

Just to be clear, I in no way, am bashing Sennheiser. They have incredible customer service. The first return, from start to finish, was one week. This time was Wednesday to Friday, 2 days! All on their dime. Their products are also exemplary, I own six. Even the IE800 is an incredible product, except for me personally, the left cable.

What're the options for rewiring for this IEM. Looks extremely appealing to my standards (audio nirvana with enhanced bass) and I've bumped up my budget for a Hi-Fi IEM. I just might bite. I've heard about the ALO Audio modified cable but I don't see any options for just rewiring. I've heard some people with wiring issues and I understand Sennheiser has been able to repair them for people (some more than just once) but how does that work unless I buy it directly from Sennheiser? I was thinking along the lines of finding the best price although they might not be verified resellers.
