Sennheiser IE300 Review & Measurements

You may have mixed success with generic MMCX terminated cables as the IE300 sockets are a variant on this and not all fit, leading to more drop-outs...

I have been very happy with a cable that I had made up by Null Audio in Singapore. Their cable selection allows you to choose the Sennheiser specific MMCX terminations (as well as your choice of cable and plug). This has worked perfectly for me for months now with no drop-outs and is (subjectively) nicer than the stock cable for aesthetics and microphonics.

been looking at the Null Audio cables and also the GUCraftsman sold on Amazon, a good cable will be next on my shopping list.

The cable I am using at the moment :

cheap, but does the job and doesn't sound too bad compared to the original IE300 Sennheiser Cable.

Bought a pair of IE300 from Amazon UK two weeks ago and had to return them as the volume was cutting out on the left ear piece, just ordered a replacement before the Black Friday price went back up and they are working fine. Had to get rid of the horrible cable though, purchased a cheap Amazon replacement cable for £20 until I can afford to get a better cable. Very pleased overall with the sound of the iE300, far better than my Campire Audio IO.
Glad you got a replacement pair that worked. As I said a couple of posts back I also had to send my faulty set back to Amazon. The replacement came today, and straight from the off they worked beautifully and there is just something about this set that feels better than than the last pair - I have probably hexed them now lol. Like yourself I think I'll search for a better cable though.

Hi, out of interest can I please ask which cable your ordered from Amazon and how is it working? I ordered a Linsoul Tripowin C8 cable and it kind of worked, but the connection wasn't very secure, kept popping out so returned it.

The poor connection on the standard cable is a real issue and a bit of a shame. By the time i contacted Amazon about it, the deal had ended and they were out of stock. I really want to get it sorted out as I'm really enjoying them. I get a great fit and the sound signature really fits my preference. I'm still waiting for a response from Senn customer support.

Knew I spoke too soon. Tried them out again tonight and straight away they only had sound coming out left hand bud till I detached and replaced the right hand connector. Sennheisers official line might be that there is a very small sample rate of faulty headphones, but so far I have an amazing strike rate of two out of two faulty sets of headphones in the space of two days. Go me!

Does anybody know of any decent balanced cables for use with these IEM's, preferably stocked at Amazon but not essential. I've never used a balanced cable before, is there a marked difference over unbalanced? Will be using with an iFi Go Bar Dac.

Hi there, i'm also looking, I've experimented with a couple cables from Linsoul on Amazon and whilst they kind of work, the connection is a little loose, honestly I wouldn't recommend it. 2 options I am looking at are Null Audio and then at an Etsy seller who seems to have a good reputation, both have an option for IE300 specific connectors. My biggest reservation on pushing the button is the cost vs what I paid for the IE300, but as i'm also considering purchasing a pair of IE600 at some point, i should be able to use the cables for both.

In terms of the benefits of balanced. I have been able to test a balanced cable with my IE300 and the issue I had with my setup IFI Zen Dac & IFI Hip Dac was that there was just too much gain, I had to have the volume pot very low and it was very difficult to quantify whether there was any real improvement. In your particular case as you are using IFI Go Bar, I have read that the device performs better from a sound quality perspective through the 4.4 balanced output than the SE output, so perhaps you may hear an improvement.

If I go for an upgrade cable, i'm thinking I may just go for 3.5 SE due to the gain issue and also because I really have no complaints in terms of the sound quality.

Thanks, yes that Scandisound one looks interesting. I noticed that Sennheiser do manufacture cables for the IE300 and do both balanced and unbalanced versions, the balanced version comes in at £95 which is roughly the price that the ETSY guy charges, and a few other cable guys I found online. Presumably the official Sennheiser cables are inferior to the custom made ones and are that price due to the normal mark ups that multi national companies impose on their customers, because the independent guys cables look to be made from far better materials?

I bought the IE300's at the end of 2021 and they were great. However, just like a lot of other people in this thread have experienced, the nozzle of one of my earpieces came off. I claimed the warranty through Sennheiser and sent the defective pair to them. They sent me a replacement pair... and the left side of the replacement pair started cutting out after 20 minutes.

I messaged them about this through the email chain I already had with them, only for them to tell me to make an entirely new claim. They also ignored the part where I asked them who would cover the cost of returning this defective replacement pair, as I had already covered the cost of sending the original pair of earphones to them (which, under Australian Law, Sennheiser is legally supposed to pay for instead of me).

Really disappointed with Sennheiser - both their quality control and their customer service.

Hello, and sorry to hear this! Let's see if we can turn around your new year. I will DM you so we can resolve this faster (customer service does not process anything through Head-Fi). Please check your inbox. Thx!

anyone have a bluetooth adapter that works with these? I know fiio make those adapters that go around the ear with a battery but I know these connectors aren't standard. Any help would be awesome.
There's the official ones. I think they fit? They're the around the neck type and can be found by looking for the Sennheiser IE100 Pro BT.

I'm using the Fiio adapters (UTWS3). Work pretty well, you just need to take some wire snippers to the red and blue bands on each to make then compatible with the IE300s. You might need to whittle down the rubber as well so it's not as snug a fit. I'm pretty happy with mine and I shared images some pages back: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sennheiser-ie300-review-measurements.952013/post-16679257

Sennheiser just showed the IE200 today at CES. According to some news, it'll be 150EUR and ETA 31 January.
