I heard not even any price information till January.

So I'm looking hard at the Ether-C and the Dharma D1000.

it's already listed in a few german shops. Price is 1599€.

Not in the U.S. till January.

And that price translates to roughly $1700 and change.  Put some import costs on there and you're up to $1799.

They had to drop the HD800 price and bring these in at the old HD800 price to get my business again.   There's just too much competition in the sector of the market anymore.

I can get HD800 for $950 from the dealer here now... That probably means they're going to have HD800S in stock soon.

So, a discounted HD800 leads you to the conclusion that you'll be able to buy the HD800S any day now?

That is enlightening, especially to the Senn reps that said there is no price set and to check back next year. Let us know your impressions when you get them.

It's kind of suspicious to me but obviously I can't jump to certain conclusions. Perhaps Europe will get an earlier release date, who knows?..

There's no way HD650 is more detailed than X2. I had all the mentioned headphones, including SE846. I guess it's just subjective.

I guess it depends on the quality of amplification.  From an iPod the X2 wins.  From a more capable amp, the HD650 will be superior....

Nope, ran both from the same Asgard 2. Which is NOT a bad amplifier.

Sigh, the hd800s. What it sounds like is a Sales Pitch more than a headphone. Yup hd800's sure sounds like a small upgrade from Apple. I'm sure Sennheiser (Senny) is treading lightly trying not to piss off the installed user base while attracting new buyers to a New product. Not one that is what, 15 years old. When you see Apple prices falling first here, then there, Best Buy one week and B & H photo the next well then you know new products are on the way. So we see Senny 800 prices dropping. And they are still keeping the old model! Snort, Chorkle. It would also not be the first time a company has looked at users custom mods and then built the same thing into the New Model. And we know the hd800s has some new acoustic dampening material. Perhaps they are issuing a new balanced cable hoping you will try balanced for the first time and 'hear how much better these new headphones sound'. If I sound cynical, you bet. But I don't think there is any Moral Ambiguity going on. Unless it is the same headphone with a new paint job and a head-fi mod that is. German Tech is all over the news the last few weeks. Really! Couldn't they have given this set a new name THE DHD2001. They way it is now it's as if Senny was saying "Don't worry, there only a little better'. Marketing Bah!
