Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!
Nov 4, 2015 at 10:07 PM Post #859 of 6,504
What's with all the price trolling? Sennheiser have some of the best, if not the best, price/performance ratios out there, and is investing heavily in R&D, always pushing the limits. This is not the thread to complain about price. The HD800 is a steal in today's headphone market, and I expect this revision to be equally well priced.

Let's just stop whining about price until it's announced, please.

Absolutely agree, Sennheiser's pricing is very good if you're comparing their products to other companies. Their pricing is apart of their positive reputation... However supply and demand still plays a roll in how RRP is calculated.

My point in my previous post was how the market ultimately dictates pricing, and I use apple's iPhone as an example because everyone knows it

Exactly. As much as we all don't like it, the price-to-quality ratio increases exponentially in almost every product category. That's simple economics, folks. I think most people's beef, and it is mine as well, is that headphone flagships used to fall in the $500 to $600 range--that is, until the Sennheiser HD 800 suddenly broke that trend and started the kilobuck flagship surge. I would hope that first generation HD 800 would follow in the footsteps of the T1 and get down to more rational pricing, but I honestly don't see it dropping below $900 retail with the $500 HD 700 centered in-between it and the HD 650.

Reality is that X2 solves all the HD6x0 issues, while having most if not all HD800 benefits (comfort, detail, soundstage). All that with no mods required and saving a cool $1000+.

I think people should give cheaper headphones a chance once in a while. I did "downgrade" from LCD-2F (which I actually preferred to HD800, also with mods) and not looking back.

The fact is: all the latest and greatest (and most expensive) might actually NOT be the best headphone for you. Keep experimenting.

Reality is that the hd800 needs special amps and sources to really max out it's full potential. Your X2 is a nice headphone but with a Teton/Pavane the hd800 will clearly prevail.

I was super lucky, scored a HD800 with no 6Khz spike. I wonder if there a point of me getting the HD800S

You should hear it to decide that. Maybe the difference will be like the one between HD600 and HD650? I do hope this is a HD650 successor.
