Well in terms of preference, HEK is my fave bcos it emotes more. 800S is a close second bcos it's a fine all-rounder and the staging is second to none. Each can has a role, hurts to pick a favourite child lol

You make me envious! And I see you have the Eikon too. A true connoisseur of good sound. :L3000:

Maybe its just a crazy question.... but did someone here in this thread have tried the sennheiser 800/s with a subwoofer. Headphones and sub.... anyone?

That sounds quite strange to hear at this moment, but interesting nonetheless. Do you feel the need to add more bass, anything that you can't do with an EQ ?

Well, i was wondering about the bass punch and the sub-aural bass.
I think some folks tried this with AKG k-1000 with mixed results... i was wondering to try with my Hd800s

The major problem, i think will be the bass punch delay.... because that, before buying a sub, i'm questioning here

Personally, with my setup using SSBB (SubSonic Bass Boost), I have absolutely no need for an external sub woofer.
Other than the inability of a pants flapping response, the extreme low end, on up, is quite enough for me.

Guilty!

On occasion I have used my SVS PB-1000 while listening to my HD-800S. A guilty pleasure, to be sure!

THATS REALLY NICE. SORRY TO ASK, BUT HOW YOU DID THE SSBB (SubSonic Bass Boost)? THANKS
I use JRiver which has a "DSP Studio" feature which allows plugins to be added if needed, such as Sonarworks etc.
It also has 2 parametric EQ plugins included which I use to add the SSBB.

I have written about the SSBB and 2 other complimentary bits of EQ, in the CookBook thread here,
https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/the-diyrs-cookbook.781268/page-15#post_12300653
and

But be aware that adding this much additional boost at such low frequencies, can use up a bunch of power from your amp.
Additionally pay attention to the possibility of overloading the digital audio stream inside the DSP stack, ie reaching 100% signal 'saturation'.

But when you have a track that still actually has this low frequency information, the results can be felt in your head and body.
But it can also affect the rest of the audio spectrum as well, usually with surprising results.

I dunno, I find hd800S under many well recorded tracks has plenty of bloom through my system with no eq, no sub, but I like the idea that folks are reaching and experimenting.

Or...the micro-iCan SE if you just want an amp is a very nice amp for the $$$
