Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Whatever Seenheiser has done to the 800S. They made the phones sound very different from 800. I actually want to rename 800S into HD 700S or 750 after having owned both pairs because I personally think 800 is superior.
The HD700S? are you high? I've owned all three and I'm now with the HD700. In no way do I believe the HD800S should have the number 7 anywhere near it. It seems like you're trying to justify owning the original HD800 by belittling the 800S, of all places down to the HD700's level.. Which is quite frankly banana pancakes. The HD800S completely deserves its name imo.

Got to agree there...

The HD700s are a very good phone but totally different from the 800S which has more air, more detail, bigger sound stage etc..but they still sound like the 800s…… but better IMHO.

Thought I’d sell off my 700s once I got the “S”’s…but no…I now use the “S”s for most of my music listening and switch over to the 700s (not that they're bad for music, far from it) for movies and whatnots…you know greasy popcorn fingers what have you…

You know apparently Senheisser are on the verge of discontinuing the HD700. It would be interesting if they replaced it with something.

Too bad. They are not bad at their current price. They used to be priced much higher, I even bought the Shure SRH 1840 over the HD 700 a couple of years ago. If they were priced as they are priced now, I might have bought the HD 700 instead of the Shure SRH 1840 maybe.

If it's something else HD650 drivers wrapped in one of the most comfy shell HD700. I would re-buy it in a heartbeat..... HD650 S Baby!!!

A HD 650 with less distorted bass would be magnificient. Be bold and call it HD 750. The true middle product between 650 and 800.

The bass never reaches HD 800 levels of distortion or tightness/impact/slam/control, no matter how you power it. It's inherently inferior and is also documented through measurements.

Funny…there were those who opted for the 700s over the original 800s…not due to price but for the sound…myself being one…but now that Sennheiser has fixed/modified the 800s to sound IMHO the way it should have originally the 700s can now take a back seat…so yes it would be interesting if they did indeed come up with a replacement or in fact apply something similar as they did with the “S”s, although for me the 700s are fine as they are.

I'm sort of tired of the LCD-3 problems, just recently my left channel (like always the left channel...) cable got disconnected from the connector and it was still loosely sitting that I didn't even know what was going on with all the sudden sound-off's every now and then... anyhow I'll replace the cable later though I'm not sure if the problem is the cable right now because I've been a lamer a bit cause I was pissed at all of the QA problems with the headphones so I did some things I shouldn't have, so... the question is now why am I posting here?

Cause I'm considering getting myself HD800/S, and yes that was an either sign, I could either get HD800 but I wouldn't exactly know how to modify it properly not a DIY kind of guy myself :p
or I can get HD800S, which I understand is a much better for the more relaxed Sound Signature especially treble, and right now I'm using HD700 that I bought a while ago before the LCD-3.

So, are the HD800S worth it? I've heard them when I was in Ukraine a few months ago but didn't really get too much into them as much as I wanted to hear the special amplifier that will (hopefully) get reviewed by Jude (yes, the same amplifier I was talking about some time ago on either this thread or the HD800 thread I don't remember where I posted exactly)

So what I thought about the HD800S is that yes, it definitely is calmer in the treble, the wide sound stage is still present and even though I'm not a fan of this totally out of ears experience since I'm even barely using my speakers, but I guess it's an acquired taste.

Hope you can suggest me something.

Thanks folks :)

The HD800S is not by much cheaper, $1700 compared to $1995
