Sennheiser HD800S Unveiled!

Hi, would you care to provide a link to the peer-reviewed scientific publication showing this? I cannot find any trace in the literature for what you state above - though I do find subjective measurements by enthusiasts on a number of forums.

To clarify, is the "well understood" and "well documented" phenomenon you mention based on such observations?

Dude, your tone is waaay off. What are "subjective measurements"? There are plenty of measurements and the methodology behind them is clearly explained. The only measurements that aren't clearly explained are the one's you get from sennheiser. This topic has been beaten to death on head-fi and the only controversy exists in your mind. Do you think sennheiser is putting this absorber technology in the headphone for no reasons? While the graph that they supply in their own literature is a joke (see the referenced pdf file on the HD800S product page), it does try to show that the new HD800S reduces the 6kHz peak. So go take it up with sennheiser! Yikes.

The HD800 S is a direct response from Sennheiser to the negativity surrounding the 6khz resonance on the HD800.  In an interview, Alex even said they looked into the popular Anax mods, but thought they could get away with eliminating the resonance and keeping the rest of the treble air and detail untouched, hence their tuning of the resonator to directly 6khz.

If that isn't proof, I don't know what is.

They didn't hear the resonance when they designed the original HD800? Why should I trust them now?

They should have just called it the HD805 and changed the shell so everyone would feel like they're getting a better product even though it's still the same thing.

I am getting the HD 800 not sure if I should get the HD 800S and cancel the HD 800 which I am getting for USD1100.  What is the best balanced AMP I can use? I am looking for Tube amp.

Or should i scrap and wait for the HD 800S?

The Mjolnir 2 is excellent with the HD 800.  Plan on getting a good pair of tubes to go with it though.

So they could strategically make the HD800 years later to invigorate sales.

In that case, I'll wait for the HD800sII

The Senn HD800. Is the new 800S simply the modded 800? Why would Senn keep the old 800s in the lineup if they feel as many do that the HD800 had such an irritating top end and needed a replacement. From personnel experience I had sold the pair I had bought in 2011 (sold a couple months later) before the mod was out (I think), not that I would have modded them one way or the other (slicing and dicing 1500.00 bucks is more adventurous than I am). So I wonder if the driver has had a design change or just an acoustic muffler?

Haha.  They will change the color and raise the price by $100...

...and right before the HD800sII is released,  the sales forum will get swamped with HD800S models at greatly reduced prices.
