Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

Strange... I have T1.1 and HD800S side by side and T1.1 is by far brighter can. By far... When i didn't had HD800S i wasnt listening music almost at all. Now im listen everyday.

Same with me. I had the T1.1 (bought in 2015) together with the HD800S, and although I did listen to a lot of music with the T1.1, I'm listening much more since I have the HD800S. I'm really enjoying scanning through my entire music collection as if I heard it for the first time... The T1.1 was very impressive as well, but with orchestral music for example, the wind instruments could be very piercing compared to the HD800S. Could be very thrilling, but too much for long listening sessions.

Has anyone here had a chance to test out the HD800S coupled with a Muses version of the Asus Xonar Essence One DAC? I got the regular version of the DAC, and vanilla HD800 phones. I'd love to hop on the HD800S train some time in the near future, even though I've noticed no sibilance issues with the HD800 in any way.

Always yearning to try new combos, so an impression on that specific one would be extremely helpful.

I have the MUSES version in hand and they sound great. I still prefer the HD800S with them though over the HD800.

If you're tied to a computer, why bother with the HD800S?

I had great results using an equaliser and the HD800 using EasyQ and JRiver.

I am a couch potato. The HD800S was potato friendly...

Hi,

I would like to connect the HD800S to a Fiio X7 (AM3) which has a 2.5mm TRRS balanced input.

Do you know an online shop that would sell (or make) the direct balanced cable from the headset to the 2.5mm jack ?

If not, do you know where I could find a XLR balanced female to 2.5mm TRRS small cable ?

Thanks :)

From what I read here and on the web the AM3 balanced output is considered the best X7 setup for the HD800. (and for any balanced capable headsets)

This is why I'm looking to find the cable/adapter that will let me test/confirm it :)

Here is a cable on Amazon that will work. I've got this cable, only in 3.5mm TRRS, from the same vendor and I've had no problems.

Thank you ! I'm ordering one right now.

Meanwhile I was able to find a direct balanced cable made in china by lunashops, do you (or anyone) have a feedback about them ?

Question about the HD800s, if I were to get a pair of these, and then go international, how would I best transport these? And what amp should I pair it with that doesn't weigh 10 pounds?

I recommend a good Pelican case and a Woo Audio WA8. It's rechargable so great on the go. Has internal built DAC inside. Sounds exquisite with the HD800/HD800S.

You feel the WA8 drives the 800S OK? Can you compare them to other tube amps. Are they quiet enough for IEMs?
