Just want to say listening to 800S on pass x350.8 with he9 as pre.... this thing has ****ing CRUSHING BASS. Its smashing a hole in my brain! Higher (Fjaak remix) - amelie lens. But its still fast, controlled, detailed. 800S becomes legendary with a speaker amp, holy crap I cannot believe it.

Still haven't committed myself to a HD800S but I'll be getting the cable connector for speaker taps to use with my 4-pin xlr balance headphone cables. Want to try out my headphones with the Sansui speaker outs. It's just that the Sansui headphone out is already awesomely good. Perhaps try it out with my equally powerful Redgum Rgi120enr black series.

Well said and my thoughts exactly...............driven from the speaker taps of my vintage Pioneer Spec system, the bass is more than enough. Anyone who thinks these are bass-light are NOT driving them right...............

Even though the HD800 has a listed impedance of 300 ohms, in reality it's actually closer to 400 ohms, and the impedance swings bigtime to around 700 ohms at around 100Hz. Perhaps massively overpowering the HD800 compensates for this impedance swing and brings out the bass.

Even though my power amp can have a bit of a noise floor depending on the headphone, I have yet to hear a balanced pair of headphones that doesn't sound better from the speaker amp.

I honestly dont know if the power, the current, the damping factor or the design of the pass amp simply being superior to HE9 but everything gets so much better its insane. HE9 is a great headamp but it simply sounds flat compared to pass. It is much lighter in bass, flatter sounding, not as extended at the top and bottom and not as transparent. And keep in mind I feel the he9 is superior to HDV 820 and Burson conductor SL. HE9 is a great amp (you will see master9 compared well with gsx mk2). But the pass speaker amp transforms the sound. I love the 800S even as an all rounder now and no longer reach for the ZMF Atticus.

Having said that waiting for an adpater to try ZMF on the speaker amp :O.

There's nothing that drives the HD800S better than my Schiit Mjolnir 2 except my Sansui au alpha 907mr. :) Thunderous bass? Of course especially with the Sansui and that's off the headphone out. Will be getting a speaker taps cable to try it.

I have to say this though that with all the amps I've used with all my headphones, the Sansui through just the headphone out make them sound totally different. It's like they rise to another totally new level. Most notable are my Beyer T1.2 and HD650 with the Sansui. I may relief the Sansui of stereo duties and get it on my desk but that's 31 kgs and not to mention the 100v to 230v step up transformer that is 16 kgs because the Sansui is a Japanese model.

Ah there it was when I had it on my desk with Yggdrasil in fully balance mode and that is a LCD-3f.

I’m getting percussive jolts to my brain stem of bass from gsx mk2 it’s resulting in successive body convulsions and an unfortunate case of nausea as sub bass leaks from every pore, my wife asks is that a 747 taking off or just hd800S playing a bass riff? I was going to mention bowls but
