Hi all, I currently have the HD650 and Fostex THX00. Would a HD800 be a good complement to these cans? I mostly listen to pop (from the 60s to present), some rock, light jazz vocals, and classical, in descending order of frequency.

Hi there, I own both TH-X00 Mahogany and HD800. I've owned HD650 twice in the past, Audeze LCD2 and many other. I'd be happy with just having the 650 and X00 - they will pretty much cover all genres.

That said, an HD800 would be a very good compliment to what you have. You will most appreciate it for classical and jazz vocals. For early pop recordings it may be a bit strident, but that is where the 650 comes in. Also, you don't need any ridiculous amp requirements. Whatever you are using to power the 650 and THX00, will be fine for the 800.

HD800, used at a good price is still among the most competitive of high-end headphones.

Hello guys and gals I'm purchasing a hd800S soon after I sell my zmf verite pheasantwood. I'm looking for the best synergy of gear to pair the 800S with..i currently use a nfb28.38. I would rather solid state over tubes for ease of use and plug and play. I was thinking a yggy2 and maybe he-9/gs-x mini, rag 2. Idk i just dont want some super bright sound
HD800S definetely need warm from amp or from dac if it will be your only 1 headphone im affraid with neutral setup after some time you will feel that bass is slightly lacking and mids is simply too queit in comparison to highs. Violectric High end amps work simply perfectly with HD800S... Just perfect mix of musicality, detail and neutrality.

+1

The HD 800S with Violectric HPA V281 (balanced to HP) just is perfect and synergetic. And it is ”needed“ from a 800S point of view. In our hobby, ”needed“ = very rewarding.

Fed by Chord Hugo 2. To me, the HP amp enhances the Hugo 2 characteristics in this setup rather than destroys them - just my personal feeling.

To those who have ordered HD800S's lately:

Did yours come in the silk-lining box and with an XLR4 cable?
Mine are new like 2 weeks maybe new, not sure how long sitting in stock. Serial No: 17100.
Yes, Yes & obviously also the 6.5mm cable as well. USB stick with the frequency response graph.

So over 17,000 made/sold?

Compound that with the HD800 which have serial numbers in the 60,000 or 70,000 by now & I'd say Sennheiser must sold 100,000+ of the HD800 & S.
At $1500+ each, not too shabby.
