Nooooo.. My Schiit Rag/Yggy stack smokes everything out there :frowning2: :frowning2:

Your setup is more than fine... I just love how real and organic Menuet sound. You should try it.

I have no idea as to who is smoking what but I've been comparing a top notch recording of Mahler 1 (1st movement) this morning with all 3 of my Schiit HP amps. The Rag may be the most underrated HP amp in their lineup.

No problem, Yes I have tried it and works well to reduce that awful spike. But surely wont get close to the HD 800S.

Had a customer send me his HD800 for an internal wire change lately and noticed he had a Super Dupont Resonator installed.

A/B tested it to my HD800S and noticed the HD800 with the dupont to sound slightly better in the bass region by perhaps roughly 5%. It's more accurate and you can hear a very subtle punch improvement but not by much at all. Sound stage was similar to my ears however the HD800S overall sound was warmer which created a more intimate sound stage in which one can perceive is smaller compared to the HD800.

Overall I still preferred the HD800S. It was a little more thick sounding to my ears and with a nice tube amp like the DNA Stratus makes it that much more compelling to listen to but still wouldn't pick it over a Focal Utopia, even if paired with a slightly colder sounding solid state as those headphones to me is just the epitome of full sound embodiment with the slightly cost of sound stage width.

Yes, I have and am probably the only person that ended up removing them.  It's pretty much unanimous that it is a great mod but with my setup, I found that the imaging was less precise and the bass was a little bloaty. Also borrowed the HD800S for a couple of weeks and found the same thing with them.  Maybe there's magic with the McIntosh and HD800 or I just got too used to the sound but I absolutely love my setup.

hey y'all! considering the hd800s and I was thinking if it sounds good out of a mojo? or if anyone has tried it with a vorzüge pure 2. i'm not looking to go crazy and get a huge expensive desktop rig, but i'd like to use my considerable mobile rig (mojo dac + vorzüge pure 2 or cayin c5) to drive the 800s.

People would say otherwise, but I found the HD800 to only start to sound impressive out of TOTL rigs.

If you don't want to invest at least a $1,000+ on a amp, I don't think the HD800S will give you a wow sound.
It can still sound good & better than competing headphones priced around & below it without a good amp, but it will be sorely lacking in some areas.

I agree with this completely.
