Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Tonality is king.
And going by your signature, it seems you still have many dynamics you hold on to! There are a few planars I like or would like to pick up (and estats!), but each driver tech has its own strengths:

Yes, true. Dynamic cans are mostly fine, but those shelling out 500$+ may look around at what's available. It's an open market and Sennheiser aren't that special anymore as they used to be. Probably why they sold to Sonova which has an unlimited and up and coming market in hearing aids LoL

The HD 650 is $379 on Amazon US right now, and that’s MAP 🤷‍♂️ The HD 6xx is even less expensive. But yes, the HD 650 was launched at $500 as Sennheiser’s production flagship at the time, stable mate to its sister HD 600.
Honestly the HD 600, 650, and HD 660 S all fluctuate a lot on Amazon too, from like $400 to under $300 at times. I personally stick with dynamics because I haven't heard a planar magnetic that sat quite right with me yet, maybe some of the newer one's will. But I'll personally stick with dynamics and electrostatics for the most part unless I hear a reasonably priced planar magnetic I enjoy.

Pricing is all relative...HD650 were $495 when released in 2005/06 or $700 in today's dollars and at the time considered uber expensive. The refurbed HD660 now at $245 would convert to to $175 in 2005....and I say relative as the HD660 for me appear super affordable while the upper echelon prices $5K are just silly for a headphone.
For $2k one can purchase a used upright hand assembled piano like my Yamaha for example.

I've over $30k invested in home audio, so not one to talk.
But.. what I'm trying to say is that even at $500 for a headphone like the HD660S IMHO it really is cheap/affordable considering it's for a cherished hobby to enjoy music and at than less than a $1.50 a day for one year for folks who spend way more than that on their morning coffee..dah.???? On top of that the headphone may last you 5-10 years and works out to pennies a day.
As I say all is relative and we all like a bargain but not too sure how the industry can even continue if things get cheaper.

Wondering if anyone tried the 660 with the Rebel amp. What are your opinions if any. Does add a lot of richness and body to the sound. The bass takes on more of the characteristics of my 6xx. My biggest complaint was that the 660 can sound a bit thin at times on my other amps.
However Rebel Amp doesn't have that delicacy and silky smoothness that my SA 1 provides.

If the HD-660s stops making me disappear into the audio every time I put them on I'll seek a pricier alternative, but that ain't happened as of yet :)
That's what its all about. If you are happy, why chase the next headphone?

I just picked up the HD-660 and LCD 2C this holiday, and they complement each other nicely.
Picked them both up (Black Friday) and will buy more Sennheiser and Audeze..
Very best of both worlds...
Sure there are other headphones in each company that's more flagship, but these suit me fine.. 👍

After listening to some liquid metal of Sirius.... Yep, they'll have plenty of customers!!!

Drops full price HD6xx is now $280, while amazon price of HD660s is $300 lol. Granted drop has a "sale" now for 6xx for $240 or else does that really make sense...

I am currently using the 4.4mm cable on my 660S. I was curious about putting the 6.35mm cable onto my HD600's. Sennheiser's site brags that the HD600 cable is "impedance matched". Will the 660S cable (noticeably) alter the sound of them?

Not a single chance of hearing any difference in cables.

I’ve use the stock Sennheiser Pentaconn cable with an HD 650, it was fine.
