Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

You and I have very different hearing. I suppose it also depends on the amps. I found NO bass with the HD600's (twice) and the HD6XX. I find the HD660 has good/decent bass with my amps (Liquid Platinum and Violectric V220). Of course you don't buy Senn's for bass.:gs1000smile:

Yup, on my vintage Yamaha amp I get more bass from the 660S than the 600's and 6XX. Any more bass and I think it would be too much.

Although it's been a while since I've owned the HD600, my memory aligns with your experience; bass is better for HD660 on my setups.

Wonder if your vintage amp's output impedance plays a role in augmenting the bass on the HD660s because their impedance is lower than the HD600/6XX. Wouldn't think so because the HD660s impedance is still relatively high. But it seems some vintage headphone output impedances can run quite high compared to today's gear.

Any chance you've been able to compare these cans on some amps with enough power and low output impedance? Be curious to hear your thoughts if you have...

Which of the 650 or 660S have more bass slam, quantity and extension please?

For me 650 has a bit more bass impact but mudded compare to 660s.
HD660s have tighter with better texture faster bass , and its clearly noticeable .
Until now i have heard 4 different HD660s and all of them sound almost the same .

You and Petros made me really want them...:)

But I am so busy with the kids and everything that if I buy them right now they will collect dust in some corner.

But I am getting really addicted with the 58X signature and timbre I just want some more resolution and scalability like the 6XX series. And I am so curious to see how much better the 660s are than 58x.

I remember two years ago I did some testing for my xcan review, I had some crazy impractical chain, xcan on top of xdsd connected from usBridge with an ipurifier 3 and a couple of Jitterbugs along the way.... It was there when I realised how much more the 6XX scales... it sounded like a 1000£ headphone....

Now with just a portable amp and no time on my hands I just want to grab my 58x for a quick fix like doing a cigarette break...

Are this still priced at 379 euros in Nakas?

Like i said dont expect night a day difference from 58x to 660s...
660s are just better on everything bass also is clearer and faster but u should get 10 % difference .
Watch zeos old reviews saying that 660s sound the same like 58x.... And watch the new video of his wall presentation saying that yeah Hd660s are surely better and ita easy to listen but the price for 660s vs 58x for.most people doesnt justify the difference.
But i.think we all agree that HD660s have something more .

I have to say i cant hear any muddynes. I can hear bass line clear and tight with HD660S

There is no way HD660s has muddynes on the bass unless if they have broken unit or changed pads or broken old pads.
HD660s has technically the best bass on HD6 series its tight fast with progression and texture , HD650 is more but slower and HD600 is fast but the weaker of them all.
We are talking with stock good pads.

You dont buy Senns for bass ?
Momentum have way way to much bass :)
And HD6 series can get some EQ without problems if the listening volume its not to high.

No, bass is not a factor at all with Sennheiser, for me. The HD58X's were the first Senn I ever heard with any bass. And the 660's, to me, are just an improved version of those.
I went through a set of HD6XX's and iFi with bass boost didn't impress me.

And I have gone through two sets of HD600's in the past year. During that time I owned several amps and a Schiit Loki. I just found the sound boring no matter what I used. IMO, they did rise to above average on my tube amp, but not enough to keep them.

The HD660's on my Violectric V220 have very solid bass. Not basshead 'phones, but you never think anything is missing.

I just got a new adapter in yesterday (4.4mm to XLR) and am currently listening to my 660's out of my Liquid Platinum. As I run though Incubus, the drums and other bass notes sound loud and clear.

I have never looked at or tried the Momentums.

I still remember my father when he was alive listening Queen2 album in his old sony headphones on his chair , there is a song father to son and i remember the noise from the vinyl spinning... So i understand that memories is the most important in this hoby .

Memories are important, yes. Although I've lost track on all suff I got over the years, I think that I'll never forget my first proper audio setup :)

Yes, the high impedance of my amp, which has the same impedance as the Emotiva A100 BasX, definitely plays a roll in the increased bass. I have not tried any other amps.

High output impedance = low damping factor = more bass and lesser control over it. In some cases that's beneficial.

These Momentums have amazing build quality reminds me my B&W p7 but the sound its not on the same level of 6 series . But some friends like them.

I just got 660s and hd800 sdr which one should I keep
What u like more .... Forget what people like me say , and close your eyes use them when u are calm with your favorite songs and then u have your answer.

And something else... Many people will say use high res music only ,in my opinion you should use both good.quality.recordings and old bad quality recordings , the reason is that some headphones are more forgiving without losing a lot of detail amd this make them more pleasant to use .

Comparing 660s with ananda, i'm thinking that 660 has better dynamics, and has a correct sound, also is more emotional while listening music than ananda that i find be too clean and neutral
and i also prefer the "restricted" soundstage of 660
I never heard Ananda but if its close to Sundara then yeah agree 660s sounds more emotional organic on music. Sundara are so clean that feels nice but strange at the same time.
