I keep hearing good things about the balanced jot setup. I'll eventually try this out once the wife forgets I just bought this setup lol

the headphone most fitting for your own HRTF.

signed: the guy with a proper answer that doesn't help one bit.

What he meant to say was..

I personally haven't heard the HD 600 but I've been around this thread long enough to be able to answer your question with some authority. The HD 600 is the same as the HD 650. The big difference is that the HD 650 has a slight mid-bass boost which gives a warmer sound than the HD 600. The HD 600 might well sound as though it has better seperation because of this but in fact they're both very close. If it were my money 'd invest in a good EQ package which will make the HD 650 sound pretty much like an HD 600 but with smoother highs & better defined lower bass. Why not spend your money on something genuinely different, something aimed at genres the HD 650 isn't particularly suited too? That's what I'd do. That's what I did in fact.

I have the HD600, HD650 and AKG K501 and K712.. If I only had the HD650 and a choice for one more it would most definitely be the K712.

I do love the HD600 for its brutal honesty, forward mids and excellent tonality, so it's not a bad choice as second hp

Ive been looking all over and it's difficult to find concrete differences between hd600 and hd650

biggest difference is pinpoint imaging of the HD600 vs the some what diffuse imaging of the HD650..also the HD650 is more subtle but only with good source/amp

can't go wrong with both but with good amp match I'd prefer the HD650 by a small-ish margin.

Since we all hear differently its not surprising that you will get many different opinions between HD-600 and HD-650 ranging from very little difference to night and day difference.  To me the differences are quite noticeable and most will notice the differences quite easily from my experiences so far.

Nah. For me, the difference is easy to hear, though admittedly very subtle. The 600 is a bit more shouty in the upper mids and has a bit more treble sparkle, while the 650 is much more smoothed out in that region (and to my ears, more neutral, though still not exactly neutral) and has a bigger midbass hump. Additionally, the 650 comes with a higher quality/less fragile-feeling cable.

HD600 cable is thinner because it is sheathed in Kevlar. The HD650 cable has thicker rubber, but it is not a better cable from a materials standpoint.
