Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I just can't listen to the HD650 at low volumes that treble is just not enough? HD600 worked better at low volume but the bass is not enough just pick your preferences these are just mines lol.

BTW I listen to my HD650 louder than most people and there is no veil or darkness when it's medium volume or higher. I can't listen to the HD600 at a loud level it starts becoming fatiguing on it.

There's no "veil" at lower volumes.

I think that it depends on where you're coming from. If you listen to so ething dark regularly, the hd650 seems actually quite bright.

Before someone asks - a Nighthawk.

Many headphones are pretty bright sounding so perhaps people have that kind of sound fixed in their minds, so that the hd650 sounds comparatively dark?

Hi

Love my hd600 very much. Thinking of buying the hd650 to complete. Is this worth it or are they to similar?

By veiled and dark I mean less of that treble at 3-4k and 12-13k in comparison to an HD600. On low volumes the treble seems not enough I can hear some treble but it's missing presence (dark 3-4k) and air (veiled 12-13k). Mids are mostly what you could hear. At low volumes I need an eq boost for treble and bass. At higher volumes the 3-4k and 12-13k is elevated as well and it sounds just right. 12-13k is also where sibilance is so you can drive that HD650 to louder volumes without it being sibilant or fatiguing.

Changing volume doesn't change the perception of frequency evenly, check out the equal loudness contour.

Aaahh...the Senn 6xx thread got stuck again on bass/treble/veil/frequency response, now spinning wheels around a black/white definition of "balanced". Happens every few weeks.

Thumbs up to those commenting on the many other important musical qualities. Timbre & texture, attack & damping, the natural flow of a piece of music, and the real touch of air moving in the (perceived) soundstage are clearly revealed with extended listening to most very good cans, including these. (when fed by very good upstream files & gear).

 IMOYMMV etc.

Had my 650 s once January and been stretching it but the clamp still bothers my jaw joints....anybody try or can recommend any memory foam ear pads that would fit the 650 and not mess up the sound or any other ear pads for comfort?

OK I just took a pic of myself with my parrot and it looks like I gained quite a bit of weight! Though if I had more fat on my face wouldn't it make them more comfy cus cushion? Would think fat is like memory foam...

But I do notice they have been bothering me more latley. Gonna start working our again today! Also no more glasses!! Gonna bust out my contacts cus tbh snug headphones + glasses is asking for being annoyed!!!
