Just bought a pair of these. I owned ATH-M50s and moved on to HD 598s. I love the hell out of them but the next and top tiers interest me greatly. I really have an itch to hear them to see what I'm missing. I'm still pretty new to all of this. I didn't notice much change from the M50s to the 598s other than comfort and openness (for obvious reasons). I have a Fiio E7. I'm going to give that a shot but I'm curious about the modi/magni combo.

You'll probably notice the difference over time, I've tried the M50's before and they sound totally different, but still a great headphone.

After years of looking for an adequate aural experience, I have to say that the HD650 deliver the absolute perfect sound for all of my needs.
I have them running with the Meier Corda Symphony AMP/DAC combo, and ever since I got them a couple of years ago, they absolutely kept on exceeding my expectations each time I put them on.

This is the headphone for life and not one of the fads (which is to say other headphones I owned) that pass by very quickly.

I agree I too am staying with the HD650 as end game cans. I have tried a lot of headphones in the 500 dollar range and can find none that beat the 650. it just does everything so well all kinds of music styles. I really believe that I would have to go into the 1000 dollar range to find better.

Hey guys, may I join the thread?
I was curious and I've been using the HD600 for a while. However, I preferred portable setups for music so the HD600 became my TV/movie headphone (replaced my DT880 for that purpose). With some movies I thought I wouldn't mind a bit more low-end and some more space. So I grabbed a HD650 as well.

I am now looking for a better matching desktop amp. I prefer solid state over tubes so I was recommended the beyerdynamic A20. Considering I am more the IEM kind of person, I was hoping you have a cheaper recommendation for me that has close to 0 ohms output impedance and the option to switch gain easily.

JDS Labs Objective 2, has batteries so its somewhat portable too. Works great with IEMs and 650s. Hell it works great with 95% of headphones.

Seconded. Other O2's are available.

Just simply cut the plastic mounting ring out of the velour pads, it comes out as two plastic rings one ring is a thin plastic oval, the other has the mounting. I glued the two rings pack together and stretched the HM5 pad around the ring (like the way a D7k or an He-500 pad mounts) snapped it in, done.

I made a YouTube video for my channel! Any support and feedback is appreciated!

Bought my pair yesterday, driving them with my MBP while waiting for the M&M-stack to arrive (damn FedEx). They sound fantastic, so my expectations are high for tomorrow when the DAC/Amp are arriving. I've had the HD555 since they were released (2001-2002ish?), but I started to grow tired of them. They downside is that they are not (yet) as comfortable as my old headphones, but hopefully they'll become more comfortable with time. :)

I have an Epiphany O2 but I don't like that the input is in the front and that it runs on battery. It doesn't look good as a desktop solution and it's an annoyingly big brick for portable use. I want to get rid of it soon.

I have a Head 'n' HiFi desktop version & it's wonderful. Paired with their ODAC XL I don't think you'll find better value for money.

I chose gains of 1x & 3x by the way. This is enough to drive all my headphones very well.

HD650s sound amazing with Chord Hugo. Very analogue and transparent. HD650s sound more detailed than ever. That said, I hope Sennheiser releases HD850s soon. :)
