One additional point.

There is a 'No Limits' compensation curve available for the HD650 (and the 800).
This curve extends all the way down to 20Hz (not 35Hz) before falling off.
This can significantly help the very low end.

Sonarworks can supply this curve, as can I.

If interested, PM me and I'll send you a copy of this 'No Limits' curve.

With SW they are no longer laid back and have ample treble and sub bass.

In my opinion, the effect of the Sonar plug-in is that it allows the HD 650 to breathe. The slightly reduced midrange lets the treble come through much more.

Sorry to repeat my previous question but in both your opinions, how does SW influence the HD 650 typical smoothness? Which is lovely and at the same time made me want to grab the HD 600.

listening to Schubert's piano sonata D850, played by Alfred Brendel in the 70-ties on my HD650 and DAC19 -> V200 amp...damn it sounds bloody glorious

So glad I switched from my Philips X2 to the HD650, thanks you all for your input

Got my Gungnir today! Gonna give the HD650 a listen as soon as I can get the LCD-2 off my head

Get ready to hear details you never knew were in the music. I was constantly turning my head looking for and thinking I was hearing noises in the house.

I hear that feeding a Project Ember using a 6SN7 via an iFi iDSD.

I heard the Ember is pretty good. Near the Bottlehead Crack as far as quality is concerned?

For me its the BH Crack (I also have the Ember) but I haven't gotten into tube rolling to much, some of the tubes being rolled in the Ember may make it equal/better than the BH Crack from what I've been reading in the tube rolling thread for the Ember (they have some pretty wide dual tube setups-one is named FrankenEmber).
