After doing tons of research online about audio I found myself coming to the website a lot so I decided to make myself an account to see if I can personally ask some questions.

As the title says, this will be about sennheiser hd600 and 650's. I have some ath m50s as they are recommended a lot and are decent headphones but I want more. I wonder what music can sound like on higher end headphones. I did some research and really want to give the hd600's or hd650's a try.

I have the money to buy the headphones now but have a limited budget for an amp. I was thinking fiio e12 as i kind of want it to be portable. I won't be using this in noisy or crowded places i just feel it's convenient for me and will maybe use them in the car or something. I will probably end up getting a better amp in the the next few months or so too. Soo... I was wondering, in the meantime, is the fiio e12 worth it to pair with the 600's or 650's? My budget is around $150 so if there's something better anyone can recommend I'd really appreciate it.

I assume that you know that both of these cans are open--they leak sound and don't isolate well.   Therefore even ignoring their size, they are not suitable for portable use.

Yes I know. I won't be taking them with me on a walk to the park or something. Just would like them to travel with me. When I do use them I will be in quiet areas of course.

Filo e12 is fine, at least you can get the 600/650 loud enough, if u want more, I would choose a sony amp for mobile use, but it is above of your budget, under 150$ e12 is the best.
 
600 or 650, if you hear more classical, take 600, 650 ist more jazz/pop/blues I finde.

They are both great sounding headphones to start with. What most people will say is that the Sennheiser HD 600 are closer to neutral but they have a little midbass bump and the HD 650 are a bit bassier than the HD 600. And the treble is a bit tilted down on the 650. Both are smooth sounding headphones. I guess it mostly depends on how much bass you need because they sound very similiar with small differences.

Buy the 600's.  Use the money you save over the 650's to buy a pair of Cardas cables.  I'm not one to ever recommend that cables do anything, but on the Senns - they make a difference.  (Like, with veil ... without veil.)

Right now I do not have access to a desktop so portable would be nice. It doesn't have to have its own battery however. I'd be using a galaxy s5 for now. Not sure if I'm asking for too much.

For desktop use -- and if you can deal with self-assembly -- then the Bottlehead Crack kit is well known to pair well with these.
I have one for my HD 650 and really like it at this price point.

Which are better overall? Because on amazon I keep seeing the 650 go down in price constantly. As of now it is $409 and the 600 is $399. That's only $10 difference. Are the 650's a different headphone entirely or are they an upgrade from the 600's?

The 650 is my preference between those two, I like it for its color and signature.
