I have tried both.The 58x is better,but I wouldnt say the difference is really that noticeable.For 99 euros the 599 is a no brainer.

The 58x is Not better by any means! I returned these muted can after a day of struggle. The 598 was nearly perfect, but i Wanted a more solid bass, with a better consistency. Now at 100 the 599 is so tempi ting... I just bought the 4.40... my wife kill me...

And i had it... just for one week. While the construction is solid and it is a dream to wear, the low mids, high bass dominate all the scene making the signature totally wrong for me. Voices without overtones are dull and the highs so muted and less detailed than the 598. Not for me at all even at the 99 euro spent for this. I changed it for an alessandro ms1. Better in any possible way

I think these are not worse than 58X, but.... I now have three units of 599 and all of them sound different.

Frist one: very bright with somewhat anemic bass resposne, a bit shouty vocals
Second one: Powerful well defined and textured bass with rumble (subbass) this is on par with HD650 which was a shocker for me
Third one: Less bass than second one, but more than first, totally satysfing to me, but there's something wrong with frequencies not being separated as excellent as second pair

Second one sounds best to me with best bass and midrange, bu out of the boxt it's got scratched plastic piece on the grill

150€ is a good price, I would go for them if I were you. The 599 definitely has a deeper and more engaging bass than the 598CS, which was pretty surprising to me. I had the same reaction as you when I got the original 598, very flat and unengaging (even though I wouldn't say they are "flat" if the bass is flat out non-existent, I would say the 598 had a reverse v shape with weak bass and veiled highs).

Here in Italy I paid 185€ for the 599, but the 600 still costs over 300€, on top of that for the 600 you would need an amp due to the high impedance, while the 599 sounds just fine even out of a phone at 50% volume. I'm pretty sure the 599 is a better deal than the 600 especially if you listen from portable devices often because not only it costs much less but it doesn't require an amp at all.
