sennheiser HD558 uncomfortable

hmm..... im not sure how long it takes to stretch though, could be more than a few days.... well i know the hd598 has softer pads than the hd558 (since its a higher end model they purposely made it that way) clamping force i heard its a little softer than the hd558

Mine improved a lot since the pads softened up from stock. 
Time will tell I guess!

same happened to mine, its now even softer than new HD598 pads lol

Definitely! I felt like the pads had plastic bags in them initially, all crunchy and hard. 
Walking to work and back with them helped a lot. 
 
Are the 598 cups interchangeable with the 558's? Brown and black would look pretty cool. I'd love to try but I think my local audio shop would have an issue with me dismantling the demo products in-store :)

yep i believe they are, i think i remember the shopkeeper telling me that too, afteral their shape is identical, not sure if the 515.555, and 595 are exchangeable with the 598 though :p

'mazin! I might order some from Sennheiser and see if it works.
 
if not, expect a spare set to go up on classifieds...

My 598's are the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned or tried. I was thinking of buying a pair of 558's for my computer. Maybe another pair of 598's, if there's a comfort difference.

The erpaads on the hd558 are firmer (but still really comfortable) than the hd598 and the hd518 having the stiffest eepad among the 3
